Knights Run Past Simpson, 100-66

Warner Pacific Knights

(Portland, Oregon) - Warner Pacific broke open a close game with a dominating second half of play to defeat Simpson University 100-66 last night at C.C. Perry Gym.

The host Knights (2-0) managed to forge a 41-34 lead at the break, but the first half was marred by numerous fouls and poor free throw shooting from both teams. The Redhawks’ Pat Magno was a one man wrecking crew in the first half as the 5-4 guard poured in 16 points including 3 from distance to keep the visitors from Redding, Calif in the game. WP’s Andre Davis countered with 11 points and 10 rebounds in the period.

The second half was all Warner Pacific, as the Knights outscored SU 59-32 in the period. Sean Gaines came alive to knock in 16 points off the bench and finish with a team high of 22. The Knight defense also caused havoc for the Redhawk ball handlers, forcing 29 turnovers and holding SU to 34.5 percent for the game.

Davis finished the night with 17 points and 14 rebounds for WP. Biniam Tadele scored 15 points and handed out 6 assists.

Pat Magno finished with 22 points for Simpson (0-3), while Bryan Castillo added 13.

Warner Pacific hosts Portland Bible College tonight at 7:30 pm.
