(Corvallis, Oregon) - The Oregon State women’s basketball team has inked Ali Gibson (Woodridge, Calif.) as the first recruit under head coach Scott Rueck, he announced Wednesday.

“We are so excited to welcome Ali to our women’s basketball program,” Rueck said. “Ali possesses all the qualities we are looking for as we continue to build the foundation for the future. She is the product of a wonderful family, a first class person, an outstanding player and she has won at the highest level. It is vital that we continue to build with young women of Ali’s character and expectation of success.”

Ali Gibson joins the Beavers after leading the Rams to back-to-back California Division III Championships in basketball, adding a USA Today National Title last season with ESPN All-State honors to cap the season. A two-time All-Tri-City League selection and an All-Section honoree last season, Gibson is also successful in the classroom, earning California Scholarship Federation recognition.

“I’m excited to go to Oregon State because I want to compete in the Pac-10, and I like the environment there,” Gibson said. “I really liked the coaches and the team.”

Gibson also competed in track, qualifying for the state meet in track in the 4x400 relay twice. She also was named Goalie of the Year and earned All-League honors in water polo.
