Medical Marijuana for Headaches: Safer and Less Toxic than NSAIDS

A recent article in The New York Times, homing in on the pain reliever peril, systematically reviews the perils and lethality of the NSAIDS.

(PORTLAND, OR) - The anti-marijuana folks will take great offense at this, but it is a fact. Although NSAIDS are relatively non-toxic as compared to morphine, etc., they do have toxic attributes. Even aspirin, the most common NSAIDS, kills about 1,000 patients per year. Other adverse side effects of NSAIDS include heart attacks, stroke, stomach and intestinal bleeding, damage to the liver and kidneys, and high blood pressure.

As a retired pharmacology professor, I have known about this for years, but the overall beneficial effects of NSAIDS has been buried in the toxic and lethal effects.

A recent article in The New York Times, homing in on the pain reliever peril, systematically reviews the perils and lethality of the NSAIDS. The article was written by Romi Caryn Rabin. It includes statements by many prominent physicians from several outstanding medical schools and hospitals.

I have posted many articles about the ultimate dangers of the extremely powerful and lethal morphine-like drugs for severe and chronic pain and have even posted that marijuana is better and safer than the strong painkillers including NSAIDS.

Marijuana even as brownies, or tincture, acts very rapidly for headaches and does not have any of the hazards and lethality of the NSAIDS such as heart attacks, strokes, stomach and intestinal bleeding, and damage to the liver and kidneys.

It is pathetic that some of the doctors quoted, said that cognitive behavioral therapy might be better than cannabis/marijuana for chronic pain or even headaches.

This is a malignant travesty. The army and the VA hospitals have tried cognitive behavioral therapy for pain and PTSD. It has been a colossal failure.

Marijuana is still the safest, best medicine for many diseases. In Oregon, 55,000 patients use it for about 50 disease conditions safely and successfully.

MARIJUANA IS STILL THE BEST MEDICINE!
