Jan-12-2009 02:19TweetFollow @OregonNews Bruce Sallan Joins Salem-News.com's Team of WritersSalem-News.com StaffSalem-News.com welcomes aboard a new writer with a background in Hollywood and a future in parenting.
(SALEM, Ore.) - A new writer has joined the Salem-News.com team; one who brings a fascinating and colorful past in film, and ultimately became a full time dad to two sons. Bruce Sallan was an award-winning television executive and producer for 25 years, during which time he produced over 30 television movies, pilots and series. He produced his first television movie at age 24 and was a Vice President at ABC at 29. "Google" him if you care for the specifics. Along the way, Bruce worked with such actors as Ingrid Bergman, Ron Howard (before he was a director), Mickey Rourke, Ben Affleck, Denise Richards, Hal Holbrook, Barbara Hershey, and Brian Dennehey. He wrote articles for Daily Variety and the Producers Caucus Bulletin. Bruce became a first-time Dad, to a son, 4 days after his 40th birthday. His second son was born three years later. When his boys were still quite young, Bruce left show biz to become a full-time Dad and to care for his ailing parents…a classic “sandwich” situation. Sadly, shortly thereafter, his marriage ended and his wife abandoned their children, leaving the State. Bruce found himself a full-time single Dad, in his late-forties, as well as a returning single man in the new world of cyber dating. He began writing various blogs on the dating sites he used, as well as articles for local publications including a regular column for The Santa Monica Star about being a single Dad. The goal of this column, for Salem-News.com, is to primarily focus on parenting issues from the Dad’s point-of-view, though often the situations are gender-neutral. Yet, just as often they’re not and it’s Bruce’s contention that the Dad’s point-of-view is less “heard” yet equally valuable to parents. Welcome aboard Bruce, you are an excellent addition to our sometimes offbeat but always interesting group.

nice article , i have no idea why anyone would take offense . I guess if your filled with anger you have to vent it somewhere . Better to do it here on these blogs than to abuse others in person .

I enjoyed the article. I was a good father to my children who are now 26 and 24, but I wish I had worked less, and spent more time with them. I do wonder what event or events happened to 'Slalomskier' and to 'conservative' to cause their personality issues. Rather than anger, I usually feel sorry for people whose discourse involves such silly name calling.

Welcome to the site. Look forward to reading your contributions. Don't listen to these negative comments.

Listen to the great Ruark who has an opinion on everyone except himself. True Demo-Rat!
They probably won't allow this comment either, goes to show you that FREEDOM OF SPEECH is dead and rotten in Oregon.
Editor: Did we ever claim to be a government entity? No, didn't think so. This is a privately owned media group and everything we present is free with no strings attached. For the record, "freedom of speech" is a valuable Civil Right but it is not a feature of any business that I know of. We're so proud and fortunate to have Henry on our team, along with our other talented writers, and mindless insults from people such as yourself have next to no place here. If you have an intelligent point or question, you are welcome to drop by. If you behave like an ass, you will be banned, simple as that.

"Conservative" (Quotes since no true conservative would write such stuff). From public record of Bush-actions, for which you-all must stand responsible, might be learning experience for you to tunein very carefully to what an experienced Dad can tell you re handling kids. Or do you prefer back-of-hand to side-of-face ?? Hope you do, since that's what has arrived for allayou... At least he will sign his stuff, more than you had the guts to do.

I loved Bruce's first article and do not see how this compares to politics in any way, shape or form.

Oh great, just another Hollywood left wing liberal Bush hater. That's just what the liberal salem-news needs.
