Anyone for Ouija Board?
The Board Game

When the rank and file are jumping off the caboose, you'll see me climbing on the locomotive. - Joe Granville, The Kansas City Guru

(DAYTONA BEACH) - Ouija Board When I was a kid, there were no computer games. In fact there were no computers.

But there were games. One game, typical for its intellectual content, went like this: you had this piece of cardboard with four corner spaces and laddered spaces in between, a pair of dice and several little plastic disks. Check that – there was no plastic then, either.

Russell Kirk`s `Conservative Mind` at 60

Russell Kirk's notion of conservatism rejects the ideological purity of some present practitioners. It stands for the concept of moral order and confidence expressed in the U.S. Constitution...

(ALEXANDRIA, VA) - Former President Ronald Reagan and Russel Kirk Russell Kirk's landmark book, The Conservative Mind: From Burke To Eliot, was published 60 years ago.

TIME magazine devoted its entire book section to The Conservative Mind, which Kirk had originally written in 1952 as his doctoral dissertation at the University of St. Andrew's in Scotland. Gordon Keith Chalmers, president of Kenyon College, reviewed the book in The New York Times and called it ³brilliant, even eloquent.²

Human Emotions: Genetically Programmed or Socially Learned?

In contrast to the philosopher Descartes: I feel, therefore I am.

(TASMANIA) - Human emotions It is easy to fall into the trap of assuming that each human being has a more or less identical range of emotions. This is not so.

Just as each human individual is physically unique while fitting into a general physical shape (that usually, but not always, includes four limbs and an adult size of between 1.5 and 2.5 metres) so, too, the range and intensity of emotions felt by human beings varies from one individual to another.

``End the War on Drugs``: Nobel Economists, Reagan`s Secretary of State

“The list of people agreeing that drug abuse is a public health problem keeps getting longer and more prestigious. Does any thinking person still believe the drug war is working?” asked Major Neill Franklin (Ret.), executive director of Law Enforcement Against Prohibition

(WASHINGTON DC) - George Shultz, former Secretary of State under President Ronald Reagan Eliminating drug use is not possible and prohibition leads to mass incarceration, human rights abuses, a degradation of fundamental rights, corruption and violence.

That is the conclusion reached by a report signed by five Nobel-winning economists, Reagan’s Secretary of State George Shultz, British deputy prime minister Nick Clegg, former EU foreign policy Javier Solana and other international luminaries.

Flaws & Foibles: No Need to Hide

Life offers us choices and we cannot always know absolute outcomes.

(SALEM) - self-criticism-blc Are we the unintended victims of our own personal propaganda?

Is it true that we are largely in denial of making mistakes and instead inculcated with the notion that we must constantly pose near-perfection for fear of being rejected by others?

Transcending Death

The divine energy of transcendental consciousness heals our nervous system of stresses, or karma, that we've accumulated in the past.

(OLDENBURG, Germany) - Death Death. The very word casts a pall of doom. Why is it so upsetting to us?

Perhaps because it conflicts with two different ways in which we know the world. We know intuitively we are immortal beings, an essence deep within us is eternal. Our sense perceptions, though, tell us we die and cease to exist. We see that the person we knew is gone. The body lying there is not them at all.

(TASMANIA) - Forgiveness Certain religious traditions, including Christianity, emphasise the importance of forgiveness. I want to explain why forgiveness is misconceived and, therefore, a bad idea.

And why there are important psychological reasons for this. In essence, the key question is this: What is the appropriate psychological response to inappropriate behaviour if we want change in the direction of improved functionality in future?
