Winters Praised for Work on Meth and Justice Issues

(Salem) - Senator Jackie Winters (R-Salem) was recently honored for her work to curb the use of methamphetamine and her advocacy of Oregon`s justice system by the Oregon State Bar. The organization`s Board of Governors approved the resolution honoring Winters in December.

`Giving communities and law enforcement tools to fight meth in our neighborhoods is the only way we are going to solve this epidemic," stated Winters. `I appreciated the recognition but the real reward is the reduction in the number of meth labs and when we see fewer children and families affected by this terrible drug."

With more than 80% of child abuse and neglect cases linked to meth Winters spear-headed groundbreaking legislation to root the drug out of communities across the state. Through a combination of prevention, prosecution and treatment neighborhoods will be returned to the families that call them home.

The Bar Association said they recognized Winters` for her efforts to curb methamphetamine use and her effective advocacy for adequate funds for the state`s justice system through her roles on the Public Safety Subcommittees of the Legislature`s Joint Ways and Means and Senate Budget Committees. `The Oregon State Bar House of Delegates expresses its sincere appreciation to Senator Jackie Winters for her support of the legal profession, for her dedication to the cause of law improvement, and for her stewardship of Oregon`s judicial system throughout a challenging Legislative Session," the award states.

Senator Winters represents Senate District 10 including the communities of Salem, Monmouth, Independence, Aumsville and Turner. She has been a small business and community leader in Salem for the last 34 years.
