(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Portland Police have released the names of the officers involved in Sunday night's officer involved shooting that occurred in the closed down car wash along Southeast 82nd Avenue. 10-year veteran Jason Lile and 18-year veteran Larry Wingfield both fired at a male suspect who died from gunshot wounds. Portland Police state in a press release, that the still unidentified man approached the police and, "continued to advance on them from an inner room inside the car wash with a large knife." The Multnomah County Medical Examiner's office determined the male died of multiple gun shots, but have not been able to locate and notify next-of-kin to release his identity. Police state in their press release that, "The male did have an extensive arrest record in both Oregon and California and had been incarcerated in California for serious person to person crimes." The statement is strictly from the police agency involved in the shooting. Portland Police say this is an ongoing investigation and the only additional information for release will be the identify of the deceased male upon notification of family. It was originally reported Sunday around 4:00 p.m., that East Precinct officers responded to a 9-1-1 call regarding an unwanted male subject who was threatening to kill the complainant and refusing to leave. It was reported that the complainant, a security officer from a nearby business, showed the responding officers to where the person making the threats could be found, a nearby closed-down car wash. Portland Police stated, "The officers contacted the subject inside the location who came out of an inner room displaying a large knife. Officers began giving commands to the subject to drop the knife. The subject refused to drop the knife and advanced on the officers. One officer first deployed a Taser on the advancing subject, but the Taser was ineffective and the subject continued to advance and was ignoring commands to drop the knife. Two officers, including the officer that attempted to use a Taser, fired their handguns at the subject and the subject went down to the ground." Officers say they immediately called for medical personnel to respond and when paramedics arrived they determined that the subject was deceased. The deceased subject is an approximately 60-year-old male. Investigators say they learned that two days earlier, the same subject had threatened to kill the complainant. As part of Police Bureau policy, both officers were placed on paid Administrative Leave as the investigation continues.
