(WINDSOR, N.H.) - As revolution spreads in the middle east, so do casualties. As of this writing, confirmation of over 300 dead and hundreds more injured primarily in Tripoli and Benghazi. It has also been confirmed that a small number of Libyan Security forces have defected in support of the people (Update: Unconfirmed claim that 150 defecting military killed by loyal troops). Small stores of weapons have made their way into the hands of protesters and one tank has been confirmed in the hands of the people. Several reports have come stating that Blackwater type mercenaries hired by the Gaddafi gov't are hunting down leaders of the rebellion while shooting rebels as they go (Reports of white vans filled with mercs roaming streets shooting randomly). I am still awaiting confirmation regarding footage of what may in fact be the body of a mercenary. As I write, it has been confirmed that at least one mercenary has been treated at the Central Hospital and this man is an African. Injuries are now reported to be over 1000, many from large caliber weapons. Snipers continue to appear on rooftops. Both Tripoli and Benghazi are being described as war zones. At last report, 4 presumed leaders have been listed as missing. In both Benghazi and Tripoli, forces have used unconventional weaponry such as rocket grenades to put down protests. In Benghazi, doctors at the Central Hospital have run out of medical supplies and people have been bringing personal supplies to the hospital. In a fashion very reminiscent of how the Israeli Occupying Forces behaved during Cast Lead, ambulances and EMT's, Red Crescent and other human rights representatives were not allowed to enter areas where wounded were located. Around 6:30 Eastern time US, Moummar Gaddafi son, Seif al-Islam Gaddafi (2nd of seven sons) was seen and heard on Al Jazeera dispensing “off the cuff” messages intended to scare citizens long afraid of the Gaddafi regime. He stated that the protesters were drug addled, lead by foreign media, and stirred by those seeking to burn Libya down replacing it with several Arab emirates. He repeated numerous messages about the inevitability of both civil war and takeover by the US and NATO. A most disturbing display reminiscent of some of his father's insane rants from the past. The speech is transcribed here (Cannot vouch for accuracy). http://9vo1.sl.pt As al Jazeera replays its limited coverage, continuous gunfire is still being reported by sources in Benghazi. Moummar has said that there will be an assembly on 2/21/2011 to examine formulas for democracy. Following rocket fire on protesters, however, it is hard to conceive of an assembly peacefully respecting human rights by a regime that has held absolute power for the past 40 years. Protesters and commentators have been attempting to help Al Jazeera understand that they do not see any value in attempting to gain a new constitution at this time. The media reporters and on air personalities find it difficult to stray from their limited scripts. The protesters are telling the media that they are all aware of the hardships that will be created with regard to the oil economy of the country and those corporations, multinational, that control this industry. They are also very much aware of the tribal nature of Libya and the disparity in population centers. For now, they say, we have to concentrate on goal #1 which is to oust the existing regime. Before the night ends, I expect to hear the death toll increase, the injury numbers increase, the 'disappearances” increase and the media beat their limited scripts to death. Too, I expect to hear the Obama regime's Hillary Clinton continue her hypocrisy in claiming support for human rights, democracy and non-violence as little kids continue to be kidnapped, arrested, and tortured by Israel's Occupying Forces and she says not one single word of condemnation (Not even so much as recognition that the issue exists!) and the US Gov't continues to be the ONLY country refusing to acknowledge the criminal assault upon Palestine and its people and the illegality of the settlements. Love and support to the people of Egypt, Bahrain, Tunisia, Libya, Yemen and Palestine!! (Update: Green Square in Tripoli now said to be empty of protesters who had only an hour ago claimed the square was theirs.) Sources necessarily unrevealed at present. M.
