(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Police responded to a vehicle accident on the west end of the Broadway Bridge this morning at approximately 5:30 a.m. Lt. Kelli Sheffer with the Portland Police Bureau, says investigators determined that the vehicle from this morning's crash was traveling westbound on the Broadway Bridge when the vehicle was unable to stay on the roadway to the Northwest Lovejoy off ramp. "The vehicle hit the cement barrier and ended up on the rail of the bridge. A 20-year old female passenger was ejected from the rear of the vehicle and was pronounced dead by medical personnel on scene. The identity of the deceased female will not be released until family members have been notified," Sheffer said. The driver of the vehicle has been identified as 20-year old Andres Guillermo Escobedo. Investigators believe that both speed and alcohol were factors in this morning's crash, Sheffer said in a press release. Escobedo has been charged with Manslaughter in the Second Degree, Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants and Reckless Driving. He is still in an area hospital with serious but non life threatening injuries. "A 17-year-old female passenger was transported to an area hospital with serious but non life threatening injuries and investigators learned from witnesses that a male passenger in this morning's crash ran from the scene," Sheffer said. That male has not been apprehended and his identity is still unknown. This is an ongoing investigation and more information will be released when available.
