(SALEM, Ore.) - Abakus is a brand new magazine, edited by Steven Hager. Hager is well known for his Editor position at the lone voice for so many, for so long, High Times magazine. He began at High Times magazine in 1986 and was instrumental in transforming it into the most influential magazine of its time. There are two annual events planned under the Abakus banner, starting with the Munchie Cup August 18-20th. The second event, The Aspen Cup, will debut in February, 2015.

Hager is a creator. He originated the first national hemp legalization group, The Freedom Fighters, and was the visionary behind “the” Cannabis Cup, the world’s most famous and most successful cannabis festival.

Grandmaster Caz is MC

He was the first person to organize 420 ceremonies outside of Marin County and has created over a half-dozen cannabis-themed events. He is considered one of the world’s leading authorities on the history of cannabis in religion, and is a cutting-edge investigative journalist with over 30 published books to his credit. Apparently, there is always room for one more project.

Enter, Abakus.

Abakus is the most exclusive publication in the realm of cannabis, with its sole purpose to foster responsible cannabis tourism in Colorado, while providing vital information for tourists arriving for the first time in a legal environment. Abakus is distributed free to cannabis-friendly resorts in Aspen, Colorado, and also available as a digital subscription.

Comic tributes to Hunter Thompson by Yippie Paul Krassner and Merry Prankster Ken Babbs appear in the debut issue, as well as a survey of the best medibles in Aspen, rankings of local dispensaries, and the return of "Hounds Eye View" by James Marshall.

Many of Hager’s original staff from High Times have returned to help create the new magazine.

They are thrilled to be presenting the first-ever “Munchie Cup”. The marijuana edibles competition is in Aspen from August 18th through 20th. Pre-registration begins Sunday, August 17th.

This exclusive event is designed to draw industry insiders to network in a magical city. Steven Hager will be leading daily 4:20 ceremonies, as well as lecturing on the history of cannabis and spirituality.

Master of Ceremonies is Grandmaster Caz, one of the principle architects of Hip Hop, and also founding member of the Grand Lodge of the Pot Illuminati (PI).

The magazine’s first issue is devoted to Dr. Hunter S. Thompson, and those that attend the Munchie Cup will be thrilled to know that the Awards Show on August 20th will be held at Dr. Hunter S. Thompson’s Owl Farm.

The Munchie Cup will be an annual event in Aspen, and is expected to become a tradition for true cannabis connoisseurs, the world over.

Please note you must be 21 years or older to attend the event in Aspen.
