Portland Police Investigating a Shooting in North Portland

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Detectives from the Gang Enforcement Team continue to investigate this afternoon's shooting at North Williams and Fremont. 29-year-old Kenneth Wonnell Riley of North Portland was shot once in the right wrist and was treated at an area hospital.

Investigators have learned that there was an exchange of gunfire between a vehicle and a group of people on the sidewalk. Investigators do not know if Riley was the intended target and no arrests have been made at this point. There is no suspect vehicle description at this time.

During the shootout, a parked car was hit by gunfire as well as a TriMet bus with several passengers, including children. A bullet traveled through the front window of the bus and became lodged in the floor. Nobody on the bus was injured.

This afternoon, Thursday April 21, 2011, at approximately 4:16 p.m., Portland Police officers responded to the report of shots fired in the area of North Fremont Street and Williams Avenue. Officers arrived in the area and located evidence of a shooting but no victim or suspect.

A short time later a gunshot victim walked into an area hospital. The victim is currently being treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

A crime scene has been established in the area of North Fremont and Williams and traffic is blocked in all directions.

The Gang Enforcement Team is investigating and no arrests have been made at this point. No suspect information can be confirmed at this time.
