Bat Found in Marion County Tests Positive for Rabies

Be suspicious of bats that approach people. See VIDEO below.

(SALEM, Ore.) - bat research Marion County health officials are reporting that a bat found inside a home tested positive for rabies on Tuesday, July 20, 2015. The test was conducted by the Oregon State Public Health Laboratory.

This is the fifth bat in Oregon to test positive for rabies in 2015, and the first in Marion County. Last year, eleven bats and three foxes tested positive for rabies throughout Oregon, but none in Marion County. The last time a bat found in Marion County tested positive for rabies was June 2012.

Nuclear Agreement with Iran is Good for the U.S.

What was really at stake in these negotiations was international trade and U.S. prestige.

(SAN FRANCISCO) - Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and President Barack Obama On July 14th, the U.S., China, France, Germany, Great Britain, and Russia reached an agreement with Iran to "to limit Tehran’s nuclear ability in return for lifting international oil and financial sanctions."

In reality, the negotiations were less about curbing nuclear proliferation and more about international trade and U.S. prestige. On balance, this Iran nuclear agreement is realistic, pragmatic and, on balance, good for the U.S.

Human rights defender reaches out to the Prime Minister of Thailand for help in correcting wrongdoings.

(LONDON) - General Prayut Chan-o-cha I am writing to express our deep concern regarding the ongoing judicial and other harassment of human rights defenders, including journalists and researchers who report on human trafficking, or otherwise bring to light violations of labour and migrants' rights, and the lack of accountability for labour rights violations in Thailand.

A case in point is the upcoming final preliminary hearing on 20th July in a criminal defamation and computer crimes case, brought by Natural Fruit against researcher Andy Hall.

Newberg City Manager Put on Leave After She Put Police Chief on Leave

Serious questions are swarming after the manager put the Chief of Police on leave without notice.

(NEWBERG, Ore.) - Betz Casey Jacque Betz is the City Manager for Newberg, Oregon, a town of less than 25,000 people situated about 30 miles south of Portland.

For reasons unknown, Ms. Betz placed Chief of Police, Brian Casey, on paid administrative leave last week. Casey's gun, badge and identification were taken from him and he was banned from city property.

The Deputy and the driver of the other vehicle were injured during the crash

(DALLAS, Ore. ) - Polk county deputy Deputy Shon Latty was responding to assist an Independence Police Officer who had called over the radio for help as the Officer was actively fighting with someone. While heading to the call, Deputy Latty was leaving the city of Dallas on Monmouth Cutofff Rd with his lights and siren going.

At about 12:07 p.m. Deputy Latty was approaching Godsey Rd when Deputy Latty's vehicle collided with another vehicle.
