(DALLAS, Ore. ) - A deputy from the Polk County Sheriff's Office was involved in a motor vehicle crash on SE Monmouth Cutoff in Dallas on Saturday. Deputy Shon Latty was responding to assist an Independence Police Officer who had called over the radio for help as the Officer was actively fighting with someone. While heading to the call, Deputy Latty was leaving the city of Dallas on Monmouth Cutofff Rd with his lights and siren going. At about 12:07 p.m. Deputy Latty was approaching Godsey Rd when Deputy Latty's vehicle collided with another vehicle. Deputy Latty's vehicle sustained substantial damage and landed in a ditch. Deputy Latty's patrol car then caught fire. Another Polk County Deputy and two officers from the Dallas Police Department arrived on scene and were instrumental in saving Deputy Latty from the burning vehicle, as Deputy Latty was not able to get out of the car on his own. Deputy Latty was transported by ambulance to the Salem Emergency Room. Deputy Latty sustained a broken arm and shoulder during the crash among other minor injuries. The other vehicle involved was occupied by two people. The passenger of that vehicle was not injured, but the driver was transported to the West Valley Hospital for minor injuries and released shortly after. The Oregon State Police was asked to respond to the scene and conduct a traffic crash investigation. _________________________________________
