(McMINNVILLE, Ore.) - The July 8th double fatal two-car crash that occurred at the intersection of Meadowlake Road and Westside Road in rural Carlton remains under investigation by the Multi Agency Traffic Team. The investigation to this point indicates the following: Jacob Ryan Coshow and Shantel Louise Fugere, each 20 years of age, were in a 1996 Mazda Miata that was travelling east on Meadowlake Road. After stopping at the four-way, controlled intersection at Westside Road, they continued east through the intersection. A 2004 Jeep Cherokee operated by 17-year old Kevin Milanez-Gomez was travelling northbound on Westside Road, with one 17-year old passenger on board, according to the news release. It is believed that the Jeep failed to yield at the intersection, striking the Mazda in the passenger side at a high rate of speed. Emergency responders were called to the scene about 5:30 p.m. and found found that two cars were involved in the crash and both were severely damaged. The two occupants of the Miata were both deceased, according to authorities. The two occupants of the Jeep were taken to the Willamette Valley Medical Center in McMinnville with minor injuries. As per protocol in fatal crash investigations, fluids were drawn from the driver of the Jeep as part of the evidence retrieval. That evidence will be processed by the Oregon State Police Forensics Division. Police say this process can take several weeks to several months. "It is in times like this that I recognize the close-knit community we have in our county," said Sheriff Tim Svenson. "Our hearts go out to the involved parties and their families. " Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Deputy Marc Brodeur at 503-434-7506 or brodeurm@co.yamhill.or.us. A fundraising page has been started for Coshow and Fugere to help cover the cost of their funerals: DONATE. Source: Yamhill County Sheriff's Office _________________________________________
