Fatal Traffic Crash in Coos County Attributed to Icy Conditions

A California man died in the crash on Highway 42 east of Remote, in Coos County.

(COOS BAY) - Fatal crash in Coos County, Oregon 12-24-09 Oregon State Police troopers are continuing the investigation of a single-vehicle fatal traffic crash Thursday morning on Highway 42, about five miles east of Remote, in Coos County.

Sergeant John Keeler with OSP, says icy conditions were a contributing factor in the crash that resulted in the death of 48-year old Kenneth Michael Rasmussen of Bakersfield, California man.

Salem Man Dies After Losing Control Near Santiam Pass

Crash on Highway 22 happened in an area where icy spots were reported.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Fatal crash near Santiam Pass in Oregon 12-24-09 Oregon State Police troopers are continuing the investigation into Thursday morning's two-vehicle fatal traffic crash on Highway 22 west of Santiam Pass. The crash resulted in the death of a Salem man and minor injuries to another person.

OSP Sergeant Mark Davie says today at approximately 10:30 a.m. a 1998 Ford Mustang driven by 52-year old Robert W. Fickel of Salem, was eastbound on Highway 22 near milepost 76 enroute to Madras when he lost control.

Three Seriously Injured in Crash South of Prineville

State Police issue a warning about holiday winter driving.

(PRINVEVILLE, Ore.) - Rollover crash near Prineville, Ore. 12-23-09 Oregon State Police troopers are investigating a single vehicle rollover crash south of Prineville that resulted in serious injury to three people.

Investigators have not yet confirmed who was driving the vehicle.

The Salvation Army of Marion and Polk Counties needs the community’s help. Just five dollars in the red kettle will feed a hungry person for a day.

(SALEM,. Ore.) - Salvation Army Christmas Eve marks the last day of The Salvation Army's 2009 Red Kettle Campaign. With one more week to go, the Salvation Army of Marion and Polk Counties is 11% short of where they were this time last year, in part due to fewer kettle locations.

Funds from this year’s Red Kettle Campaign will help sustain vital Salvation Army programs and services in the Salem, helping those in need through their daily struggle for survival.

Search & Rescue Mission On Mount Hood Suspended

The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Suspends search for missing climbers.

(MT. HOOD. Ore.) - Katie Nolan and Anthony Vietti remain missing on Mt. Hood. The search for two missing climbers on Mount Hood is over. The information was released today by Det. Jim Strovink with the Clackamas Sheriff's Office.

"The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, announces with profound sadness the necessity to suspend the ongoing Search and Rescue mission conducted on Mount Hood, in Clackamas County."

(TIGARD, Ore.) - Photos of house fire in Tigard, Ore. 12-12-09 by TVF&R Firefighters from Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue called out just after 8:00 a.m. this morning to reports of a home on fire in the 8700 block of SW Spruce Street in Tigard.

Cassandra Ulven with TVF&R, says firefighters from Tigard Station 51 arrived within four minutes to find heavy smoke and flames coming from most of the windows of the two-story home at 8708 SW Spruce Street.

OSP Patrol Car Struck by Out-of-Control Pickup on Interstate 84

A second incident happened Saturday night in the Albany area when an OSP sergeant handling a traffic crash witnessed an out-of-control vehicle crash into the back of a tow truck.

(CASDADE LOCKS, Ore.) - Interstate 84 Crash 12-12-09 An OSP recruit trooper assisting at the scene of a motor vehicle crash near Cascade Locks was uninjured after his parked patrol car was struck by another vehicle.

Sergeant Pat Shortt with Oregon State Police says this was one of two incidents involving emergency responders and roadside assistance vehicles that are reminders of the need to slow down while traveling.
