Storms Continue Their Attack on Southern California, Southwest

The intensity of the storm now hitting the Southwest was stronger than some hurricanes with a barometric pressure under 29.00 inches of mercury Wednesday.

(LOS ANGELES) - AccuWeather.com reports the last and strongest in the train of Pacific storms will unleash a new round of flooding rain, mudslides, feet of mountain snow, damaging winds and severe thunderstorms on California and the Southwest into Friday.

It is an all out weather war being waged by the atmosphere on the Southwest.

Stronger Storms Bear Down on California, Southwest

Twenty-foot waves will also batter the California coast, leading to over-wash flooding, property damage and severe beach erosion.

(LOS ANGELES) - Waves Pound Asilomar Beach, Calif As the magnitude of storms increases from the Pacific Ocean, the risk to lives and property will escalate into Friday over California and neighboring states. Not counting the latest storm bashing the Southwest Wednesday, one to two additional storms will slam ashore through Friday evening.

The storms will continue to pack high winds, flooding rain, feet of snow in the higher elevations, massive waves and severe thunderstorms over the region during the period.

More Damage, Mudslides, Serious Flooding Threaten West Coast Beaches

Episodes of strong winds will add to the danger.

(STATE COLLLEGE, Pa.) - Accuweather.com map AccuWeather.com reports Pacific storms, including one today, will continue to target the West this week. Each storm will unleash drenching rain, heavy mountain snow and strong winds. The resultant wind damage, mudslides and flooding could lead to more deadly and destructive consequences.

After Monday's pounding, another Pacific storm will slam onshore today. Two more storms will follow Wednesday into Thursday with the last potentially causing the most problems for Southern California.

Search Launched for Missing Man in Rogue River

Coast Guard, local agencies searching for man spotted in trouble in 48F-50F degree water.

(ASTORIA, Ore.) - Coast Guard helicopter The Coast Guard, Curry County Sheriff's Department and Oregon State Police are searching for a man spotted near River Mile 8 in the Rogue River Friday.

Two witnesses reported seeing the man waving a shiny object while clinging to a log in the debris-choked river at approximately 2:30 p.m., according to a statement issued by the U.S. Coast Guard.

Police Investigate Fatal Traffic Crash on Highway 20 west of Burns

The victim was a member of the United States Coast Guard. He was in the process of transferring from his duty station in North Bend, Oregon to a duty station in Virginia.

(BURNS, Ore.) - Fatal crash near Burns, Oregon 12-29-09 A 19-year old Boise, Idaho resident serving in the United States Coast Guard died late Monday evening or early Tuesday morning following a single-vehicle rollover crash on Highway 20 west of Burns.

On December 29, 2009 at about 7:45 a.m. an Oregon Department of Transportation employee driving along Highway 20 near milepost 116 saw a crashed vehicle off the roadway. Upon checking the crashed vehicle it was discovered a deceased driver was still inside.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Portland, Oregon Today's surprise snowfall is creating hazardous driving conditions for Portland motorists all over the city, especially in the West Hills where the Portland Bureau of Transportation is responding to reports of slick streets.

Major arterials are in pretty good condition, with snow melting as vehicles drive over it. Neighborhood sidestreets that are not getting as much traffic are more slick.

Drivers need to be prepared for snow on Sexton and Siskiyou mountain passes in southern Oregon.

(SISKIYOU MOUNTAINS) - Snowy road Drivers moving between Oregon and California on Interstate 5 will have to be prepared for tough winter driving conditions. ODOT Assistant District Manager Shaun Stephens says chain restrictions are currently not in place but drivers should carry chains and come prepared.

OSP Trooper Injured: Patrol Car Struck From Behind on Icy I-84

The trooper was released from an area hospital after treatment for minor injuries and the other vehicle's driver was cited for Careless Driving.

(Hood River, Ore.) - OSP car struck on an icy highway OSP reports a third similar incident in as many weeks, in which an OSP patrol car was struck by another motorist while patrolling the icy roadways of the Columbia River Gorge.

"The OSP trooper was slightly injured and his patrol car damaged Sunday night when he was struck by another vehicle that had lost control near Hood River," Shortt said.
