(SISKIYOU MOUNTAINS) - Drivers moving between Oregon and California on Interstate 5 will have to be prepared for tough winter driving conditions.

ODOT Assistant District Manager Shaun Stephens says chain restrictions are currently not in place but drivers should carry chains and come prepared.

Road condition updates are available at www.Tripcheck.com or by calling 511. Road and weather information can be accessed toll-free within Oregon by dialing (800) 977-ODOT (6368).

California road conditions are online at the Caltrans Web site, dot.ca.gov/cgi-bin/roads.cgi or by calling 511 within California or (800) 427-7623 outside the state.

"You can save yourself a lot of grief if you can delay your travel until after the storm passes," Stephens added.
