Sri Lanka`s Shavendra Silva Removed from UN Group

Silva was a top military commander.

(GENEVA) - Shavendra Silva Sri Lanka’s deputy U.N. ambassador has been dropped from a group advising the Secretary-General on payment to troops participating in peacekeeping operations.

According to the report, Louise Frechette, said she had advised Major General Shavendra Silva “that his participation is not appropriate or helpful.”

(GENEVA) - Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Prof. Gamini Lakshman Peiris Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Prof. Gamini Lakshman Peiris, who arrived in Geneva two days ago, has been dropped from the speakers' list at the high level segment of 19th session of the UNHRC.

A week ago UNHRC extranet published Mr. Peiris as the speaker from Sri Lanka at the high level segment. By yesterday (Feb. 21), however, Minister of Plantation Industries, Mahinda Samarasinghe has replaced Minister G.L. Peiris.

(SIDON, Lebanon Daily Star) - Palestinian Walaa Sleiman A crowd of Lebanese and Palestinians, furious over the death of a woman allegedly denied adequate treatment, vandalized an United Nations Relief and Works Agency clinic and pharmacy near the southern city of Tyre Tuesday.

The crowd broke into the clinic, which is located in the Shabriha Palestinian refugee camp in the Tyre district, destroying computers and scattering documents.

(CHICAGO) - Khader Adnan Khader Adnan has reached an agreement with the Israeli military authorities. He promises to end his hunger strike, but only if Israel guarantees to give him back his freedom April 17.

Israel blinked, saying, in effect, “Yes, you may go free April 17, four months after we put you in prison without charges. Your administrative detention will end and you may return to your wife and two daughters.”

Israel Better Forget About Attacking Iran

For some reason, the Ynet article failed to list the grave inevitable consequences of any aggression against Iran, including the destruction of Israeli cities following barrages of Iranian missiles.

(LONDON) - Israeli F-15 Israeli Ynet admitted today that an Israeli air force attack on Iran is unrealistic.

The Israeli paper quoted a New York Times article that described such an attack as ‘highly complex operation’.

Francis Joseph, a Catholic priest, south of the Vadduvaakal bridge on May 18 2009?

“Aananthi” (not her real name), the wife of one of the disappeared, told Human Rights Watch that she saw the army load the priest and the LTTE members on to a bus and drive them away.
