(CANBY, Ore.) - Mitch Webb and Penny Olheiser display a fish from the day's catch Oregon kids and handicap permit holders who like to fish have a fantastic opportunity waiting for them at the Canby Pond.

Youngsters like Penny Olheiser are taking advantage of recent changes that mean the pond can only be used by kids and Oregon handicap permit holders; many of whom are veterans.

National Geographic Partners with Oregon and Washington to Launch Geotourism Project for Central Cascades‏

A 2002 study shows more than 55 million adults in the U.S. could be described as "geotourists," who travel to enjoy the distinctive character of places and want them to stay appealing.

(WASHINGTON D.C.) - National Geographic logo National Geographic Society's Center for Sustainable Destinations has joined organizations in Washington and Oregon to publicize the world-class natural and cultural attractions of the Central Cascades.

The pilot project seeks to contribute to the economic health of communities by promoting geotourism: tourism that sustains and enhances the geographical character of a place — its environment, culture, aesthetics, heritage and the well-being of its residents.

A community-based nomination process launched today will be used to create a National Geographic "Geotourism MapGuide" for the region.

Hunters Reminded of Oregon ATV Laws

Hunters that use ATVs are also being reminded of new laws coming into effect Jan. 1, 2008.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - oregon state police atv Hunters in Oregon are being reminded of the dangers of driving an ATV with a loaded weapon.

So far the season, nine hunters have been cited by Oregon State Police for driving an ATV with a loaded weapon. Ten were cited for driving ATV's on closed or prohibited roads, while another hunter was cited for driving an ATV in violation of posted restrictions meant to protect wildlife habitat. A total of 44 hunters have been cited for unlawful ATV use this year. In 2006, Oregon State Police cited 125 people for ATV violations and warned over 1,500.
