Sun Will Shine on This Year`s Detroit Fishing Derby

If the forecast holds together, there may not be a better place to be this weekend than Detroit Lake.

(DETROIT, Ore.) - Detroit Lake Fishing Derby The Annual Detroit Fishing Derby has landed on a spectacular weather weekend this year! With high’s near 80 on Saturday and Sunday, this promises to be a gorgeous time to be on the lake.

The Derby starts Friday May 15th and goes through Sunday the 17th. Registration and fish entry is from 6:00 a.m. through 4:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. On Sunday the last fish is counted at 2pm sharp. The registration fee is $12 for adults and $7 for kids.

Rangers, Conservation & Anti-Violence Groups Seek National Park Gun Ban

President Obama is called upon to keep American families and wildlife safe in National Parks.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Near Iceberg Lake Glacier National Park Montana In a letter sent to President Obama today, park rangers, The Humane Society of the United States, Violence Policy Center and other groups, asked for the president’s help in stopping efforts to allow loaded rifles, shotguns, and semi-automatic weapons in America’s national parks—risking the safety of American families and wildlife.

To curry favor with the National Rifle Association, Senator Tom Coburn (R-OK) this week sponsored an amendment to H.R. 627, the Credit Cardholders Bill of Rights Act of 2009.

St. Louis Pond is a Great Fishing Experience

Fishing should remain good, and likely get better with the warmer temperatures, warmwater fish are also available here.

(GERVAIS, Ore.) - Photos of St. Louis Pond by Mitch Webb Salem-News.com I recently volunteered at an ODFW Youth Angling event held at St. Louis Ponds in Gervais, Oregon. A search of Tesch Road in Gervais on Internet mappings sites will lead you to an interesting view, especially noticing the shapes of the man made numbered ponds from above.

I was quickly impressed with the grounds and the folks attending the event. It was a real outdoor experience, even though I-5 can be heard near the East end of this St Louis County Park (Marion).

If you are quite lucky, you might also catch a glimpse of another resident here. A solitary bobcat print was still preserved in the snow here last week.

(DETROIT LAKE, Ore.) - Stahlman Point by by Gerrit Roelof Spring is trying to poke through. We made the daylight savings time change, and “sprung forward”. Even though 3” of fresh snow blanketed my cabin in Detroit this weekend, the snows are generally receding up the mountain.
