Injured Climber on Mt. Hood Safely Evacuated

Clackamas County SAR personnel report that the injured climber was plucked-off Mount Hood safely by 1042nd‏ Helicopter Squadron.

(MOUNT HOOD, Ore.) - Oregon Guard 1042nd Medical Company Blackhawk Photo by Tim King Salem-News.com Search and Rescue personnel on Mount Hood are reporting the Oregon Army National Guard 1042 helicopter has flown to the Hogs Back area of Mount Hood, and lowered a medically trained member of their flight crew down with rescue personnel on the ground with the patient. This member of the flight crew assessed the situation and determined the best options available to remove the patient from the mountain.

Oregon Guard Sends Helicopter to Mount Hood Rescue

An Oregon Guard helicopter heads to the rescue scene on Mount Hood.

(SALEM, Oregon) - oregon guard rescue mount hood clackamas The Oregon Army National Guard is be launching a Blackhawk Helicopter to make a mountain extraction of a climber who has suffered a head injury on Mt. Hood.

Kay Fristad with the Oregon Guard says he is one of two climbers who had been on the mountain. The second climber is making his way down the mountain.

The Blackhawk helicopter from the Oregon Army National Guard, based in Salem, Oregon, is expected to launch around 4:20 PM.

Salem-News.com reporter/photojournalist Tim King covers the mobilization ceremony of a military group that he will deploy to Iraq with to cover in-country for the next several weeks.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem-News.com We are happy to announce that I will have the honor of joining a group of Oregon Guard soldiers from 2-641 Aviation who are deploying to Iraq to work in the aviation sector at Balad. The soldiers were officially mobilized this week.

This will be my second opportunity to be embedded with an Oregon Guard unit at war. I spent the winter of 2006/2007 embedded with the Oregon Guard in Afghanistan.

Oregon Guard Helicopter Crew Rescues Injured Logger

The UH-60 helicopter reached the victim quickly and had him delivered to Oregon Health and Sciences University at 11:40 AM.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Oregon Guard UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter An Oregon National Guard UH-60 Helicopter crew assisted in a rescue this morning, when a logger fell off a cliff in Polk County.

Oregon Guard Spokesman Major Mike Braibish says the incident happened about nine miles west of Black Rock and Mainline Road, which is about 45 miles outside of Salem, Oregon.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - American soldiers attending a USO show in Afghanistan. The Portland VA Medical Center says they will show their appreciation to Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom veterans with a Welcome Home celebration event.

Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom veterans and their families are invited to enjoy a day of fun including all-day rides from noon to 7:00 PM, roller skating, two live bands, a catered lunch, door prizes and face painting for the kids at Oaks Amusement Park in Portland.

Iraq Veterans Reunite For Peacekeeping Role

The group from the Oregon Guard was personally requested by USARPAC after their stalwart performance in a similar exercise, titled "Khan Quest," in Mongolia in 2006.

(DHAKA, Bangladesh) - Salem-News.com Five soldiers of the Oregon Army National Guard that previously served together in Iraq as part of the 1st Cavalry Division's Task Force Baghdad and in Operation Southern Relief in the wake of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, have reunited for duty in support of a United Nations (UN) peace support operations training mission in Bangladesh.

The soldiers, who served together within the "Volunteers," of 2nd Battalion, 162nd Infantry, Oregon Army National Guard, in Iraq from 2004 to 2005 are part of a team of eight soldiers and airmen selected for their expertise to support Exercise Shanti Doot-2 (Ambassador of Peace).

The exercise is hosted by the Bangladesh Armed Forces, with command and control provided by the Oregon National Guard.

Oregon National Guard Deploys to Bangladesh to Support Bilateral Exercise

Guard members will work with military from 12 nations.

(DHAKA, Bangladesh) - Bangladesh map Eight members of the Oregon National Guard are deployed to the Bangladesh Institute of Peace Support Operation Training in Dhaka, Bangladesh, to participate in a three-week long Exercise Shanti Doot, which commenced April 2nd.

The team, comprising both Army and Air National Guard members, will join over 600 international soldiers in an operation designed to enhance regional capacity for peacekeeping operations
