Ducks Brennan Makes 400 Final at World Junior Championships

Friday will be the last day with two sessions, the first beginning at 10:00 a.m. and the second starting at 6:00 p.m.

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - Oregon freshman Christian Brennan qualified for the women’s 400-meter final at the 2014 IAAF World Junior Track and Field Championships, advancing on time with a clutch performance, Thursday.

Brennan was slated in lane eight of the third and final heat of the semifinal round, with the top two in each heat, plus the next two fastest times, advancing.

Oregon Softball Adds Georgia Transfer

Geri Ann Glasco, a first baseman, was also the No. 2 pitcher for the Bulldogs.

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - The Oregon softball program has signed transfer 1B/RHP Geri Ann Glasco, head coach Mike White announced on Thursday.

Glasco, a native of Watkinsville, Ga., played her freshman and sophomore seasons at Georgia and will have two years of eligibility left with the Ducks, starting immediately.

Oregon, UCLA Picked to Win Pac-12 North, South; Meet in Title Game

UCLA is a heavy favorite to win the Pac-12 South.

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - Oregon is a near unanimous pick to win the Pac-12's North Division and a heavy favorite to go on and win the conference title game to cap the upcoming season, according to a poll of media members covering the league.

The Ducks, coming off an 11-2 season in which they won the Alamo Bowl, were picked to win the North Division on 37 of 39 ballots.

Oregon Quartet Makes Noise at World Juniors

The third day of the competition will begin, Thursday at 10:00 a.m.

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - Incoming freshman Ariana Washington led a quartet of Oregon women competing at the IAAF World Junior Track and Field Championships, Wednesday, finishing seventh in the women’s 100.

Washington, who will be coming to Eugene from Long Beach Poly High School, recorded a time of 11.64 in the finals, after advancing second in her semifinal heat in 11.73.

Ducks Jason Amos Wins ITA Summer Circuit

Amos defeated the top three seeds in the ITA Summer Circuit as he claimed the singles title.

(AZUSA, Calif.) - Oregon men’s tennis junior Jayson Amos mowed down the top three overall seeds, including the No. 1 overall seed in the finals, to claim the singles title at the 2014 ITA Summer Circuit.

The three-day event held at Azusa Pacific started on Saturday, July 19, and culminated with the championship on Monday.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - You won’t find a bigger supporter of Bryce Petty than Baylor coach Art Briles, who on Monday bristled at Petty’s perceived snub from the Heisman Trophy ceremony in New York last year.

Twitter: Briles, on why Petty has a better chance to win the Heisman this year: “Go to a Dairy Queen in Salem, Ore…” and they’ve heard of Petty.

Mariota, Ekpre-Olomu on Walter Camp Preseason Watch List

Ekpre-Olomu was a second-team all-American according to the WCFF last season.

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - The rollout of preseason award watch lists concluded Friday with UO quarterback Marcus Mariota and cornerback Ifo Ekpre-Olomu each adding to already impressive lists of accolades.

Mariota and Ekpre-Olomu, each of whom returned to school despite being considered top NFL draft prospects, were named Friday to the watch list for the Walter Camp Football Foundation’s player of the year award.

Oregon Running Back Duo on Doak Walker Award Watch List

Former UO running back LaMichael James won the Doak Walker Award for 2010.

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - Junior Byron Marshall and sophomore Thomas Tyner of Oregon were named Thursday to the preseason watch list for the Doak Walker Award as the nation's best running back.

Marshall and Tyner previously were named to the preseason watch list for the Maxwell Award as national player of the year, along with UO quarterback Marcus Mariota.

Ducks Marcus Mariota Named to O’Brien Award Watch List

Last week, Mariota was named to the preseason watch list for the Maxwell Award as national player of the year.

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - His bid for the Davey O’Brien Award having been derailed by injury last year, Marcus Mariota will get another crack at being named college football’s top quarterback in 2014.

Mariota, an Oregon junior, was named Wednesday to the preseason watch list for the O’Brien Award. The Hawaii native was a semifinalist last year, before a knee injury slowed him in November.

Ducks LB Derrick Malone on Two Award Lists

The Butkus Award is given to the nation’s best linebacker, based on “athletic achievement and service to the community.”

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - Two major college football awards released preseason watch lists Monday, and both included Oregon senior linebacker Derrick Malone.

Malone, who led the Ducks with 105 tackles in 2013, was named to the watch lists of both the Butkus Award and the Rotary Lombardi Award.
