(AZUSA, Calif.) - Oregon men’s tennis junior Jayson Amos mowed down the top three overall seeds, including the No. 1 overall seed in the finals, to claim the singles title at the 2014 ITA Summer Circuit.

The three-day event held at Azusa Pacific started on Saturday, July 19, and culminated with the championship on Monday.

In the round of 64, Amos easily took down Cameron Braun of Glendale Community College 6-1, 6-0. The Mission Viejo, Calif., product then defeated Gui Gomes, a rising junior star from Irvine, Calif., 6-3, 6-2 before upsetting the No. 2 overall seed in the tournament.

The 6-3, 6-2 upset of Drew Dawson, an incoming freshman at Notre Dame, was the first of many for Amos in the tournament.

Amos stifled Kevin Bondar – the No. 7 overall seed – in the quarterfinals allowing just one point (6-1, 6-0). He then went on to upset the No. 3 overall seed, Jason Jaruvang of IUPUI, in the semifinals 6-1, 6-2.

With his victory over Jaruvang, Amos found himself in the championship match against Alec Adamson, the No. 1 overall seed.

Adamson, a sophomore at UC Davis, gave Amos the most trouble the entire tournament, taking a tournament-high four points in the first set. However, Amos was able to fend off Admson to win the singles title 6-4, 6-3.

Amos was tied for first with Robin Cambier this past season with a 23-5 mark in singles play. The junior predominantly played in the No. 5 and No. 6 positions, going 19-3 during the dual season.

In doubles action, Amos teamed up with Daniel Sardu going 16-11 overall and 16-10 at the No. 3 doubles slot.
