Weather Experts Predict Extreme Heat Danger in Western States

More than 1,700 fires have scorched nearly 1,000 square miles of California in the past two weeks. More than 300 of those fires are not fully contained.

(SACRAMENTO, Calif.) - The extreme heat building through the West could reverse gains made by firefighters battling dozens of wildfires in California, AccuWeather.com forecasters say. Extreme Heat Warnings are in effect again today across many areas of California.

Temperatures in the central valley and the high desert will soar above 100 degrees, with the heat spreading north and east into western Canada and the western High Plains.

It has been three and a half weeks since an unprecedented number of lightning strikes sparked over 1,700 fires across northern and central California.

Fires Flare as Smoke Spreads From California Wildfires to Oregon and Nevada

The National Weather Service reports that wildland fire activity was reported with six new large fires nationally, but California remains the most active state with 27 large fires and 409,046 acres burned.

(SALEM, Ore.) - The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection reports that over 1,450 fires in California have scorched more than 416,200 acres as of early this morning. AccuWeather.com forecasters say smoky conditions will continue to affect central and northern California as well as western Nevada and southern Oregon.

California Wildfires Lead to Presidential Declaration for Federal Aid

Smoke has been sent downwind from the fires, resulting in hazardous breathing conditions for California residents. Parts of Oregon and Nevada will also be impacted.

(SALEM, Ore.) - The President issued a declaration today ordering federal aid to supplement state and local firefighting efforts in response to wildfires. AccuWeather.com Meteorologist Kristina Baker, says California's Department of Forestry and Fire Protection reported early Sunday that over 1,400 fires have ignited across the state since last weekend's devastating lightning storm.

"The fires have charred over 356,000 acres and destroyed 29 residences. The number of homes that remain threatened stands at over 7,500. Firefighters are desperately trying to contain the 29 large blazes across the state that could destroy these residences."

Amber Alert for 11-Year Old Nevada girl Cancelled

The Amber Alert for a Las Vegas girl has been cancelled; she was not harmed and is with police in California.

(LAS VEGAS, Nevada) - Police believe 11-year old Esther Melendez was taken out of Nevada by 30-year old Jose Rangel-Martinez Oregon State Police has been informed by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department that Thursday evening's AMBER Alert issued in Nevada is cancelled after the missing girl was found safe in Porterville, California.

Earlier this evening, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reported that they were seeking information to help find 11-year old Esther Melendez, who was believed to have been taken from her home by 30-year old Jose Rangel-Martinez.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Police and federal agents are looking for convicted pedophile William Matthew Smolich and Angela Finger. Michelle and Patrick Finger say they aren't going to stop trying to locate their daughter who unknowingly became involved with a convicted pedophile. Sadly, the only sight they catch of her now shows up on elusive Web porno sites.

Her mom says that two years ago, Angela was bright and sweet, and was very close to her family. But that all changed in a heartbeat.

An autopsy has determined the remains of a female discovered in a Southwest Reno field Friday are those of 19-year old Brianna Denison who was abducted January 20th.

(RENO, Nevada) - 19-year old Brianna Denison An autopsy has determined the remains of a female discovered in a Southwest Reno field Friday are those of 19-year old Brianna Denison who was abducted from a friends’ residence in Reno in the early morning hours of January 20th.

Police said the official cause and manner of death was due to strangulation making this a murder investigation. Police also estimated the full autopsy report would not be completed for several weeks due to pending protocols that include toxicology and other tests.

The FBI says Ms. Dennison disappeared a few hours after attending a social functions at an event center and a hotel/casino in Reno on January 19th 2008.

Oregon Man Leaves Baby in Nevada Brothel Parking Lot

A security guard at the Mustang Ranch heard the small girl crying in a car.

(VIRGINIA CITY, Nev.) - Police say Lucien Hoffman of Bend, Oregon, was attending a private function inside the brothel when he left his two-year old alone in the car, in 95 degree heat. A Bend man is in custody for leaving his two-year old girl alone in an automobile at a Nevada brothel for more than two hours. Deputies investigating the case at the Mustang Ranch say the outside temperature was 95 degrees.
