University Bids Farewell to Popular Music Professor, Band Leader Philip Cansler

"I thought if I had a good time and the kids sensed it, the band would play better and have a good time too." - Dr. Philip Cansler

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - The University of Portland community is mourning this week the loss of one of its most colorful and endearing figures, music professor, band director, and trumpeter Philip Cansler, who passed away Monday at the age of 54 after being diagnosed with brain cancer last fall.

A memorial service for Cansler has been scheduled for Sunday, June 15th at 4;00 PM. It will be held at First Baptist Church, on 909 S.W. 11th. The service will be followed by a reception there.

Mix-n-Mash 2008 announces Call for Artists

The event features even more performance artists, including live theatre, dance and classical music.

(Salem, Ore.) - Salem-News.com Filmmakers, fashion designers, musicians, visual artists and performance artists are encouraged to apply for the two day event occurring October 10th and 11th in Salem, Oregon.

Last year, more than 200 artists from Oregon, Washington and California converged in downtown Salem for an event unlike any other in the world. 5000 people attended a performances by more than 50 bands, 12 filmmakers, 10 performance artists, 8 visual artists, 32 models and 3 fashion designer in 17 venues in Salem.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Announces `Liverpool Life`

Mike McCartney will visit to unveil his new photography exhibit.

(CLEVELAND, Ohio) - Mike McCartney now and then Liverpool in the Sixties will take over the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum’s circular gallery in the Ahmet M. Ertegun Main Exhibition Hall this summer and fall.

Mike McCartney’s Liverpool Life, which opens to the public on June 26th, features incredible black-and-white photographs documenting the origins of the British Invasion.

The Summer in the City Music and Wine Festival is a direct result of the call by Salem residents for a vibrant destination.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem, Oregon's Summer in the City logo Save the dates! The First Annual Summer in the City Music and Wine Festival is coming to downtown Salem, Oregon, on August 9th and 10th 2008.

The event, organized by Go Downtown Salem! will raise funds for Marion-Polk Food Share, the non-profit charity organization leading the fight to end hunger in Marion and Polk counties.

On this day in 1985 an amazing concert was held to benefit people suffering from famine in Ethiopia.

(NEW YORK) - Child starving in Ethiopia The Live Aid Concert was a series of rock concerts held to raise funds for famine relief in Ethiopia around the world in cites including London, Philadelphia, Sydney and Moscow.

The concerts attracted close to 200,000 people and using satellite link-ups and television broadcasts around the world attracted an estimated 1.5 viewers in 100 countries watching the concerts performed live. The Concerts were organized by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure and raised over $250 million.
