OHA Invites Public Input During January Marijuana Meetings

Rules, science, research advisory committees coming up

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem-News.com The public will have several opportunities in January to provide input on medical and retail marijuana policy in Oregon.

The Oregon Health Authority Public Health Division has set meetings of the Marijuana Rules Advisory Committee, the Retail Marijuana Scientific Advisory Committee and the Cannabis Research Task Force.

Senate Bill 844, passed in 2015, created the Cannabis Research Task Force to study and publish a report on the development of a medical cannabis industry that provides patients with medical products meeting individual patient needs.

Breaking the Stigma of Addiction - Matt`s Story

The speeches and news coverage came too late for this family.

(MYRTLE BEACH, SC) - Matthew Klosowski On January 3, 2015, Matthew Klosowski died from a prescription drug overdose. Matt had become addicted to prescription opioids after suffering a back injury and resulting surgery in Delaware. He was 37 years old when he died in a hotel room in Florida.

I connected with Matt's mom, Marybeth Cichocki shortly after his death. Marybeth wanted to tell Matt's story and I wanted to hear it.

(MYRTLE BEACH, SC) - seal of US Senate In 2009 and 2011, I warned that the maker of OxyContin, Purdue Pharma was positioning to have their killer opioid marketed for pain in children as well as something they called "pregnancy pain."

After I made a complaint to the FDA, Purdue Pharma was advised by officials from the "watchdogs of America" (FDA) via conference call to cease and desist any and all marketing of OxyContin for "pregnancy pain."

Bat Found in Marion County Tests Positive for Rabies

Be suspicious of bats that approach people. See VIDEO below.

(SALEM, Ore.) - bat research Marion County health officials are reporting that a bat found inside a home tested positive for rabies on Tuesday, July 20, 2015. The test was conducted by the Oregon State Public Health Laboratory.

This is the fifth bat in Oregon to test positive for rabies in 2015, and the first in Marion County. Last year, eleven bats and three foxes tested positive for rabies throughout Oregon, but none in Marion County. The last time a bat found in Marion County tested positive for rabies was June 2012.
