Hillsboro Police Exchange Gunfire With Suspect During Welfare Check

The officer and the suspect both survived the shooting.

(HILLSBORO, Ore.) - Police shooting Hillsboro police and Washington County Sheriff's deputies were involved in a shooting today around 4:50 p.m., while responding to a welfare check of a distraught man in the 600 block of north 1st Avenue in Hillsboro.

Police say the subject's therapist called police asking for the check because of his recent agitated mental state.

Police say Lorenzo Garcia-Ceja and his brother, Manuel Salvador Garcia-Ceja, were apprehended in Zamora, Mexico on the morning of June 3rd.

Stations report that the new Chief, Mike Reese, is on scene at tonight's shooting.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Portland Police Chief Rosie Sizer Portland's Police Chief Rosie Sizer was fired today by Portland Mayor Sam Adams. He named Mike Reese as Portland's new chief; he has been the agency's Central Precinct commander.

The dismissal of Sizer comes one day after Portland agreed to pay $1.6 million to the family of a mentally ill man who died in police custody.

Gresham Police Seek Public`s Help in Fatal Shooting

Police want to know if anyone witnessed a black Audi near the crime scene.

(GRESHAM) - Audi A8 similar to vehicle that Jake Kaluna was found in on 31 March; police want to talk to anyone who saw a similar vehicle in the area that evening. Gresham Police were called out March 31, 2010 at 7:47 p.m. to check the welfare of an individual slumped behind the wheel of a vehicle in the 2000 block of SE 182nd.

Upon arrival, they found 21-year old Kalewa Jacob "Jake" Kaluna of Portland, deceased behind the wheel of a black 1998 Audi A8 4-door sedan.

New Mexico`s Governor Orders National Guard to Patrol Mexican Border

The move follows the shooting death of an Arizona rancher.

(SANTA FE) - New Mexico National Guard Governor Bill Richardson, after meeting with top law enforcement officials this morning, ordered the National Guard to patrol the border with Mexico and ensure the safety of New Mexico citizens.

Governor Richardson is also urging the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Defense to increase the federal law enforcement presence at the border and make that presence permanent.

A man is dead following a police shooting in Portland.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Police shooting Few details are in, but around 3:05 p.m. today Portland Police officers responded to the Hoyt Arboretum on a call of a disturbance in the area of the park.

Detective Mary Wheat with the Portland Police Bureau, said an officer arrived on scene; shortly later the officer reported that shots had been fired and requested immediate medical response.
