(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Portland's Police Chief Rosie Sizer was fired today by Portland Mayor Sam Adams. He named Mike Reese as Portland's new chief; he has been the agency's Central Precinct commander. The dismissal of Sizer comes one day after Portland agreed to pay $1.6 million to the family of a mentally ill man who died in police custody. Adams called the factors behind the decision "cumulative" today at a press conference. The AP reports that the mayor did praise Sizer for her four years as chief. He said she, "has accomplished some remarkable reforms" while serving as chief of the Portland Police Bureau. While offering the compliments, Adams also added, "Too often though, the reforms have come after, or in reaction to, failures at the bureau. I want to put the bureau on a more proactive reform path." All of this comes as Portland news stations break the news of another Portland Police officer involved fatal shooting in the Portland area. That happened tonight at 6th and Clackamas. The officer involved also suffered injuries, they were considered non life-threatening. Stations report that the new Chief, Mike Reese, is on scene at tonight's shooting. Seems it isn't going to take long for him to get used to being the chief of an agency with a history of complicated police-involved shootings. Until you've been the officer whose life hangs in the balance of, "shoot, don't shoot" you can't place the blame. That's why there's CSI Units. Let the evidence speak, not your big mouth.

It is only a matter of time until the new police chief will also be scrutinized for ways he handles his job. Its a known fact that personal agendas end up directing the course of (someone in a high position).

I don't understand why the abuses of the Salem PD are not more fully explored by a news agency...

Good riddance and Good Job Adams !!! Hopefully the new chief can begin to undo some of the damage from Sizer's SS. She should be arrested, if you ask me. Under her reign, PPD has got a nation-wide reputation of trigger-happy thugs that shoot first and ask questions (or make excuses) later. She is a disgrace to Oregon, Portland and women in general. Adios, B**ch !

That last sentence wasn't necessary.
Editor: You're right Justin, that was too opinionated, it was changed, thanks.
