Keizer Fire Has Busiest 24 Hours in its History

Fire Chief Jeff Cowan noted that despite the heavy volume of calls, Keizer Fire District personnel and equipment were able to handle all of their calls for service with one exception, where an ambulance from Salem was needed.

(KEIZER, Ore.) - Fire in Keizer, Oregon Keizer's Fire District experienced its busiest day for a 24-hour period between 7:00 AM. on December 21st and 7:00 AM on December 22nd, 2008.

The Keizer Fire District's Spokesman Jim Trett, says crews responded to a total of 37 calls for service during the period.

"The District then broke that record between December 22nd and December 23rd during the same time frame when they responded to 39 calls for service," Trett said.

Keizer Police Arrest Man for Stabbing His Brother

The victim was transported to the Salem Hospital Emergency Room in serious condition. ‏

(KEIZER, Ore.) - Stabbing investigation Keizer Police arrested a man for stabbing his brother in the stomach early this morning. Capt. Jeff Kuhns with Keizer PD says that around 12:41 AM, officers were dispatched to a report of a "Late Assault" where the victim was reportedly bleeding from his stomach on Plymouth Drive NE.

Keizer Puts New Ambulance Into Service

The new ambulance replaces a 2003 ambulance that will be rotated to become the District's second out ambulance.

(KEIZER, Ore.) - Keizer Fire District The Keizer Fire District placed a new ambulance in service at the end of November. The new advanced life support medical unit will be the new front line ambulance for calls in the Fire District, according to Fire District Spokesman Jim Trett.

He says planning for the new unit began approximately two years ago and was ordered in early 2008.

"Fire Chief Jeff Cowan pointed out that the new ambulance was not purchased with funds from the District's Levy approved by voters in the November general election", Trett said.

Keizer Police Arrest Man Over Stabbing

Nathan Stephens was lodged at the Marion County Jail on charges of first-degree Assault, Unlawful Use of a Weapon and 3 counts of Criminal Mischief.

(KEIZER, Ore.) - Stabbing investigation Keizer Police responded to a reported stabbing at the Keizer 7-Eleven store located at 5550 River Road North in Keizer early this morning at 3:37 AM.

A 7-Eleven employee called 911 to report the incident. When officers arrived on scene, they locate the victim, Christopher Espiritu, who had a single stab wound to his upper left shoulder blade. Mr. Espiritu was transported by ambulance to the Salem Hospital, with non-life threatening injuries.

Keizer Police Sgt Jeffrey Goodman, says officers were able to identify the suspect as Nathan Lee Stephens.

Fire Strikes Keizer Assisted Living Facility‏

Fire and smoke damage was confined to the laundry room with a small amount of damage to the hall immediately outside of the laundry room.

(KEIZER, Ore.) - Fire at Keizer, Ore. assisted living facility Units of the Keizer Fire District responded to a report of a fire alarm sounding at a Keizer assisted living facility shortly after 8:00 PM on Wednesday night, according to Fire District Spokesman Jim Trett.

"When firefighters arrived on the scene they discovered a fire had been burning in the laundry room of the facility."

Trett says the call of an alarm sounding was received at 8:10 PM from the Avamere Court at Keizer Retirement and Rehabilitation facility, located at 5210 River Road NE in Keizer.

Local Groups Lose Over 5,200 Pounds to Help Fight Hunger

The group was inspired to take action when they learned startling statistics; more than 1.6 BILLION adults worldwide are overweight; and 862 million people went underfed in 2007.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Food Drive Coordinator & Weight Watchers Staff Member, Gloria Carter sorts through 1,158 pounds of food for the Marion Polk Food Share. Weight Watchers groups from Salem and Keizer have teamed together to join the fight against two global epidemics – hunger and obesity – by participating in the Lose for Good Campaign.

According to Feeding America, 99% of food banks surveyed experienced an increase in the number of low-income American’s turning to soup kitchens and food pantries for assistance this year. Even the nation's most affluent areas have been affected; thirty-nine percent of the adults requesting emergency food assistance in the last year were gainfully employed.

As part of Lose for Good, the Weight Watchers groups coordinated food drives – donating food for each time members lost weight - to support the Marion Polk Food Share. The food share collects, sorts, stores and distributes over 4.8 million pounds of food each year to a network of 73 local service providers who distribute food to hungry people in their neighborhoods.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Oregon hot rod and custom car enthusiasts get together each summer for a very special celebration called "Night of Fire." In fact, the gathering is earning a reputation for being one of the state's top events for cars, and it also is an event with a heart.

The idea is to bring hundreds of cars and thousands of enthusiasts together for an event in the Salem area that is family friendly and downright memorable. Highlights at this get together include the lighting of the jet car, drag racers, low rider hops, and plenty of great food from vendors like Adams Rib Smokehouse.

Man Survives Robbery and Stabbing in Keizer

The suspect is an Hispanic male adult in his twenties, 5’07” to 5'08", and the suspect vehicle is a late model two-door Honda with brown or dark colored paint.

(KEIZER, Ore.) - Stabbing investigation Officers from the Keizer Police Department responded to an apartment located in the 800 block of Chemawa Road North just after 5:30 PM this evening, after receiving a call from an individual who called 911 to report someone had been stabbed.

Captain Jeff Kuhns with Keizer Police says the complainant told the 911 operator a male subject came to her apartment asking for assistance. The victim, a 55-year old male Keizer resident, told the complainant he had been stabbed and was in need of help.

Shooting Suspect in Keizer Remains at Large - UPDATE

Police have named the person they arrested, but they say it was unrelated to the shooting and that suspect still remains at large.

(KEIZER, Ore.) - Several Keizer Police officers responded to the 3900 block of Partridge Lane NE at 9:47 PM last night on a report that several gun shots had been fired and someone had been injured last night around 9:47 PM.

Keizer Police Captain Jeff Kuhns says the first officers arrived on scene at the Partridge Lane Apartments within a minute after receiving the call.
