Marine veteran remembers visit by Colonel Gregory (Pappy) Boyington, the Marine Corps’ highest ranking Ace from WW II, who died 22 years ago today.

(SOMERDALE, NJ) - Salem-News.com It’s not often that you get to ‘stand inspection’ for a Medal of Honor winner. The word was passed that Colonel Gregory (Pappy) Boyington, WW II Medal of Honor and Navy Cross recipient with VMF-214, would be visiting MCAS El Toro and the Marine Wing Service Group-37 tomorrow.

This was a big deal. Medal of Honor winners do not pay visits every day. Pappy Boyington was the highest ranking WW II Ace in the Marine Corps.

Somber Homecoming for NW Soldier Killed in Afghanistan (VIDEO)

Sgt. Elijah J Rao was killed by an improvised explosive device, or roadside bomb, in Afghanistan.

(HILLSBORO, Ore.) - military funeral A somber and reverent group was on hand for the arrival of a local soldier December 12, 2009, who was killed fighting in Afghanistan. The family of Elijah J Rao says he will be sorely missed.

We first reported on this loss the day after it happened when the family released word of Elijah's death. They said at the time it is the last knock a family ever wants to hear at their door.

West Linn Police Grieve Loss of Long Time Officer

(WEST LINN, Ore.) - West Linn Police badge On December 18, 2009 West Linn Police Department Officer John Satter lost a short but fierce battle with an aggressive cancer. He had put in his retirement paperwork just a few weeks before he passed.

John was a 20 year veteran of the force, and was the first motorcycle officer to be deployed with the WLPD. Officer Satter spent his career in the patrol division, working stints in traffic, including truck inspections. He leaves behind his wife, Rene, adult children Jaime and Jeremy Satter, and step daughter McKenzie St.Clair.

Lakewood`s Final Goodbye to Four Officers Killed in the Line of Duty (SLIDESHOWS)

Mark Renninger, Ronald Owens, Tina Griswold and Greg Richards were laid to rest with the greatest tribute and highest honor.

(TACOMA, Wash.) - Lakewood, Wash. Police memorial by Q Madp Services were held today in Washington for four Lakewood police officers who were ambushed and killed Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009 in the line of duty.

Events like the one held today require massive coordination as law enforcement agencies from all over the nation and even beyond, attend to show their respects for their fellow officers.

However, on this rainy morning in Northern Virginia, another black Cadillac meandered through rolling hills on hallowed ground.

This vehicle carried Medal of Honor recipient, Sergeant Leonard B. Keller, to his final resting place at Arlington National Cemetery.

While we honor the lives and sacrifice of all four officers, the death of Officer Ron Owens hits especially close to home. Owens was a former state trooper, having served our agency from 1997 until he left to join the Lakewood Police Department in 2004.

Reward for Lakewood Cop Killer Now at $125 Thousand

Law enforcement still looking for suspect in Murder of four police officers.

(LAKEWOOD, Wash.) - Salem-News.com The Pierce County, Washington Sheriff's Department is still looking for the suspect in the Lakewood police officer shooting. A warrant for four counts of first degree murder has been issued for 37-year old Maurice Clemmons.

He reportedly has a gunshot wound and is armed. Detectives say the suspect knows law enforcement is looking for him and should be considered dangerous.

Lakewood Police Identify Person of Interest in Murder of 4 Officers

Person of Interest identified in Murder of Lakewood Police Officers should be considered armed and extremely dangerous.

(LAKEWOOD, Wash.) - 37-year old Maurice Clemmons The Pierce County Sheriff's Department has identified a person of interest in the November 29, 2009, murder of four Lakewood Police officers.

The person of interest is Maurice Clemmons, a 37-year old black male from the Parkland area of Pierce County. Clemmons is 5'8" tall, 235 lbs., with black hair, brown eyes, and a mole on his left cheek.
