Obama Economic Advisor Addresses the American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan`s Job Impact (VIDEO)

The bottom line is that recovering from the last 8 years is going to be tough, and without Obama's plan, it would be even harder on America.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Salem-News.com Christina Romer, the future head of the Council of Economic Advisers, along with the next vice president’s chief economist, Jared Bernstein, released estimates Saturday of what the Obama economic plan would accomplish.

A New York Times Op-Ed by Columnist Paul Krugman, calls the report "reasonable and intellectually honest, which is a welcome change from the fuzzy math of the last eight years."

But the report makes it clear that the real needs of the economy can not be met with this plan.

Kindness Pays BIG Dividends...

Poor people are targeted and made into criminals; there are no SAFE place to sleep, and too often shelters are NOT SAFE. People face loitering laws, and there are no public places for people to sleep/rest, why not???

According to the National Coalition for the Homeless, 1.2 million children are homeless on any given night. Also, the U.S. Department of Education that report almost 400,000 homeless children were served by the nation's public schools last year.

Columbia County Operations Resume After Record-Breaking Winter Storm

Update on Weight Restrictions Imposed as a result of the Freeze/Thaw Cycle‏.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Results of past flooding in Vernonia Officials say most of Columbia County is back to normal activities this week after two weeks of snow and ice hampered the holiday activities of many residents.

The storm brought a record 18.9 inches of snow to the region and was the snowiest month since 1969 according to the National Weather Service and a record snowfall for lower elevations.

The weather event affected the roads and on Tuesday, the 23rd of December the County Commissioners approved a Board Order imposing weight restrictions on posted county roads to reduce road damage as a result of the heavy freeze/thaw cycle.

City and State Crews Gear Up for Next Storm System‏

Portland and the state of Oregon are gearing up for increasing cold and ice.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Portland, Oregon The National Weather Service is predicting another severe winter weather event for the Portland metropolitan region this weekend. City and State crews are prepared to respond.

Road conditions are generally good throughout the city of Portland – clear pavement, some patches of snow, some patches of ice – but most streets are clear and drivable. Crews are sanding, plowing, and applying de-icer chemical on problem spots as needed. Efforts today are focused in the hills and in known hazard areas all around the city. Crews are patrolling the city and monitoring locations for temperature changes, precipitation, and road conditions.

New Public Toilet to Be Unveiled‏ in Portland

"The Portland Loos are meant to be a unique solution to a universal problem."- Portland City Commissioner Randy Leonard

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Portland Loos Portland City Commissioner Randy Leonard will unveil the first of a new line of public toilets called Portland Loos on Monday, December 8th 2008 at 11:00 AM.

The first Loo will be installed adjacent to the Greyhound Bus Station on NW 6th Avenue in Portland's Old Town.

City officials say Old Town is fraught with large homeless populations and late night bars and clubs. The city has long sought a cost-effective solution for providing these populations with a safe and sanitary, 24-hour per day bathroom. Leonard intends for the Loos to be that solution. Eventually, the city hopes to install Loos in other high-need areas similar to Old Town.

Police Arrest Transient Male in Two Major Assaults

Two people described as transients were taken to Legacy Meridian Park Hospital by ambulance for treatment of their injuries.

(TUALATIN, Ore.) - Jesse Roger Giles is in custody for assaulting two other people described as transient from the Tualatin area.  Photo: Tualatin Police Tualatin Police responded to a report of an "assault occurring now" call last night at 6:15 PM at the Shell Station at 7090 SW Nyberg Road in Tualatin.

Capt. Brad King with Tualatin Police says that when the officers arrived, they contacted 19-year old Lori A. Wayment, a transient from Utah, who had a cuts and contusions on her back, head and arm.

Update on Historic Nyberg House Fire in Tualatin

Until the danger of working around and beneath unstable structural members is eliminated, the fire investigation remains on-hold

(TUALATIN, Ore.) - Historic Nyberg House in Tualitan, Oregon burning January 2nd Tualatin likely began the process of saying goodbye to a landmark Wednesday, January 2nd, when flames were reported at the historic Nyberg house that night at 11:30 PM.

The building was devastated by the fire and is likely a total loss. At the time of the fire it was vacant, though transient activity was reported from time to time there.
