(TUALATIN, Ore.) - Tualatin Police responded to a report of an "assault occurring now" call last night at 6:15 PM at the Shell Station at 7090 SW Nyberg Road in Tualatin. Capt. Brad King with Tualatin Police says that when the officers arrived, they contacted 19-year old Lori A. Wayment, a transient from Utah, who had a cuts and contusions on her back, head and arm. "Ms Wayment identified her assailant as her boyfriend, Jesse Roger Giles," King said. Giles is 24 years old. "He was identified the scene of the assault at the transient camp they were staying at just south of the Tualatin River and east of the I-5 freeway, where he allegedly beat her with his fists and a piece of wood." Kings says that as the officers were interviewing Ms Wayment, another 911 call of an assault victim at the nearby Wendy's restaurant was received and officers contacted Curtis Martini, a local Tualatin area transient. "Mr. Martini told the officers that he was staying at the camp and had tried to intervene while Jesse Giles was assaulting Ms Wayment and Giles turned on him, assaulting him with fists and a piece of wood." Mr. Martini had a large, bleeding cut below his left eye, was bleeding from the mouth and had a large contusion in the area of his left ribs, King said. Both Ms Wayment and Mr. Martini were taken to Legacy Meridian Park Hospital by ambulance for treatment of their injuries, King added. "At about 6:30 PM Officer John Jayne was searching for the suspect when he found him walking near I-5 and the Tualatin River. Mr. Giles did not resist and was taken into custody without incident or injury. According to the arresting officers, Mr. Giles appeared to be intoxicated." Mr. Giles was lodged at the Washington County Jail on the following charges: Assault in the Second Degree – 2 Counts; Assault in the Fourth Degree – 2 Counts; Unlawful Use of a Weapon – 2 Counts and Menacing – 2 Counts.
