(SALEM,. Ore.) - Salvation Army Christmas Eve marks the last day of The Salvation Army's 2009 Red Kettle Campaign. With one more week to go, the Salvation Army of Marion and Polk Counties is 11% short of where they were this time last year, in part due to fewer kettle locations.

Funds from this year’s Red Kettle Campaign will help sustain vital Salvation Army programs and services in the Salem, helping those in need through their daily struggle for survival.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Oregon State Police during traffic stop Preliminary information indicates the 2009 Thanksgiving holiday period fatalities matched the lowest recorded level since 1978 as one person is reported to have died in a traffic-related crash on Oregon highways.

The reported single death matches the lowest recorded number in 1978 and is the lowest figure for this major holiday period according to ODOT's Crash Analysis and Reporting Unit.
