National Average Gasoline Price Closing in on $3

Prices keep going up. Wholesale price increase blamed on consumer demand and lack of refinery capacity.

(SALEM) - South Salem, Oregon gas prices last Saturday Wholesale gasoline prices continue to climb, and while the national average price for a gallon of regular, currently $2.97, was not expected to hit $3 this year, it probably will happen within the next few days.

As the national average price rose by ten cents in the past week, Oregon motorists watched gasoline prices skyrocket by more than 15-cents per gallon, pushing the statewide average up to $3.28. Salem's average of $3.25 is running slightly ahead of the state average.

Oregon Gas Prices Hit Record Highs

Portland/Vancouver hit a record high today at $3.11.

(SALEM) - gas station photo Oregon’s statewide average for a gallon of regular unleaded set a new record high today at $3.12.

The previous record was $3.11 set on May 28th, 2006.

According to AAA, the Salem-area average price has been setting record highs daily since April 19th. Today the average price is at a record high $3.11.

Oregon Gas Prices Continue to Surge Above $3

Of the state's four major metropolitan areas, Salem is less than two cents away from surpassing the record set on June 1st, 2006.

In the past week, the national average price for a gallon of regular jumped by more than seven cents to $2.87.

Oregon's average price followed suit, going up more than six cents per gallon to $3.07.

Oregon Statewide Average Gas Price Hits $3

In Salem, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded jumped 6-cents in the past week to $3.

(SALEM) - gas price photo In the past week, Oregon's average price for a gallon of regular gasoline gained almost six cents and now stands at $3.

At the same time the national average shot up by almost a dime a gallon to $2.79.

"While these numbers might be a bit discouraging, there is some good news," said AAA Oregon Public Affairs Director Elliott Eki.

"Pricing activity in California often signals what the rest of the country can expect. Since April 2nd, California's statewide average price gained only slightly more than a penny a gallon.

This week, California prices remain flat and in many metro areas, they're inching downward. That could be a signal that pump prices nationwide may begin to level off and even retreat very soon."

Oregon Gas Prices Jump 35-Cents in the Past Month

The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded in the Salem-area jumped 8-cents in the past week to $2.94.

(SALEM) - gas price photo In a single week, the national average price for regular gasoline shot up by more than a dime a gallon to $2.70.

In Oregon, the average price rose by about nine cents a gallon to $2.95.

In the past month, the national average price increased by about 23-cents per gallon while Oregon's went up almost 35-cents.

U.S., Oregon Gas Prices Continue Steady March Upward

In the Salem-area, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded jumped 4-cents in the past week to $2.86.

(SALEM) - Gas pump With the arrival of spring break, motorists in Oregon are seeing gasoline prices ranging from less than $2.80 per gallon to more than three dollars per gallon.

In the past month, the state's average price for a gallon of regular rose by 36 cents to $2.859.

That compares to a national average price increase in the same time period of a bit more than a quarter to $2.59.

West Coast Average Gasoline Prices Continue to Lead Nation

Oregon average up another 5 cents; national up less than a penny and a half.

(SALEM) - Gas station attendant Average gasoline prices on the West Coast remain the highest in the nation. Currently, the national average price for a gallon of regular is $2.56. That same gallon of fuel averages $2.93 for the three West Coast states. In Salem, drivers are paying an average of $2.827, while Portland motorists are seeing a slightly better price, $2.821.

Vancouver, Wa. prices come in slightly behind Portland, with an average cost of $2.853 for a gallon of regular.

Oregon Gas Prices Nearing $3 a Gallon

In the Salem-area, the average gas price has risen 18-cents in the last week to $2.78 a gallon.

(SALEM) - In mid-February, gasoline prices in Oregon were in the early stages of moving upward; by month's end, the statewide average price for a gallon of regular stood at $2.52.

Since then, the average price has soared to $2.77, gaining slightly more than 25-cents per gallon in two weeks.

Of Oregon's four measured metropolitan areas, Portland recorded the greatest two week price jump -- almost 29-cents per gallon.

Oregon Lawmaker Backing Obama`s Fuel Economy Reform Act

If approved, the bill would be the first change in fuel economy standards in 20 years.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Senator Barack Obama U.S. Senator Gordon Smith (R-OR) is supporting legislation that will help Oregonians drive farther on a gallon of gas.

The Fuel Economy Reform Act of 2007 introduced by U.S. Senator Barack Obama (D-IL), would reduce America’s gasoline consumption by more than half a trillion gallons by 2028 and greatly decrease our dependence on foreign oil.

This would be the first change in fuel economy standards in 20 years.

“Consumers are demanding fuel efficient vehicles and I believe American ingenuity is up to the task,” Smith said.

Oregon, Nationwide Gas Prices Continue to Soar

Some analysts forecast that the Pacific Northwest average price for a gallon of regular gasoline could hit $3 by the end of March.

(SALEM) - Gas pumps at night The national average gas price rose another 12-cents in the past week to $2.49.

That's an increase of thirty-one and a half cents in the last month.

During the same time period, Oregon's statewide average price climbed nine cents to $2.61, an 18-cent per gallon gain in a month.

Over the past week, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded rose 8-cents to $2.60 in the Salem-area.
