Gas Prices in Oregon Rise Sharply

In the Salem-area, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded jumped 6-cents to $2.86.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - gas pump In the past week, the national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline rose by a little more than two cents to $2.81. Oregon's statewide average, however, rose by more than six cents to $2.88.

AAA says consumers should expect to see pump prices rise a bit more in the coming week despite increased availability of foreign supplies and declining demand.

Oregon Gas Prices Up Slightly This Week

In the Salem-area, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded rose by 1-cent to $2.81.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - gas pump In the past week, the national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline fell by almost four cents to $2.79.

But Oregon's statewide average continued its upward trek, but by a mere one-tenth of a cent to $2.82. In coming weeks, motorists should see pump prices backing off.

Last week, OPEC agreed to increase oil production by 500,000 barrels per day.

Oregon, Nationwide Gas Prices Move Upward

The average price in the Salem-area moved up 6-cents in the past week to $2.76 a gallon.

(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - gas pump photo Refinery problems once again fueled an upsurge in Midwest gasoline prices, which pushed the national average price for a gallon of regular up a nickel during the past week to $2.78.

The impact of that region's tight supplies and holiday demand was felt, but not so severely, in the Pacific Northwest where Oregon's average price gained more than 3-cents per gallon to $2.77.

Average Gasoline Prices Continue to Fall

Oregon prices bumped up a tad overnight, but should settle. Holiday auto travel is projected to be slightly less than a year ago, so there's no extreme increase anticipated in fuel demand.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Gas nozzle With Labor Day only a week away, motorists will find continuing relief at the fuel pump. In the past week, the national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline lost another three and a half cents to $2.75.

In Oregon, the average price fell more than a penny to $2.74. These average prices are the lowest they've been since early April. Compared to last year, the current national average price is about a dime per gallon lower, and Oregon's is 27 cents lower.

Gas Prices in Oregon Continue to Fall

In Salem, the average price fell 5-cents a gallon this past week to $2.85.

(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - gas pump photo Improved output at Midwest refineries during the past week, caused the national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline to plummet another eight cents to $2.88.

In Oregon, the decline was a bit more moderate at about four cents a gallon to $2.89, matching the average price at the end of March.

In the Portland metropolitan area, some retailers already are selling below $2.70.

Fuel Prices Continue Decline Despite Holiday Demand

Gasoline prices still inching downward. In Salem, prices went up by less than half a cent overnight, but don't expect big price jumps.

Gasoline Price Decline Continues at Slower Pace

Gas prices still moving downward, but a bit slower than in previous weeks. Fourth of July demand could stall or reverse downward trend.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Oregon gas station attandent Gasoline prices across the nation continue their retreat, but at a slower pace than in previous weeks. In the past seven days, the national average dropped almost three cents per gallon to $2.98; in Oregon, the average price declined by only four cents to $3.08.

Salem’s average cost of $3.00 is Oregon’s lowest. Portland drivers are paying an average of $3.02 and Eugene/Springfield motorists are seeing an average price $3.04.

Governors Call on President, Congress to Work to Lower U.S. Gas Prices

Oregon currently has the sixth highest average gas prices in the nation, according to the AAA.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - oregon governor kulongoski Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski on Tuesday, joined 17 fellow Democratic governors in calling on President Bush to work with Congress to lower record gas prices.

They're urging the president to endorse federal legislation defining and penalizing gas price gouging and ordering federal agencies to pursue violations against companies engaged in gouging.

Higher Gas Won`t Curb Memorial Weekend Travelers in Oregon

Oregon's average price went up in the past week, but since Monday, the average has dropped a tenth of a cent. Not much of a drop but, perhaps, a good sign of things of come.

(SALEM, Ore.) - gas prices As previously forecast, the national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline hit a new all-time high at $3.09, up more than a nickel in the past week. During the same time period, 19 states set record highs. Oregon's statewide average price went up by less than two cents a gallon to $3.41, and actually lost a tenth of a cent per gallon overnight Monday.

"Average prices in the state's four measured metropolitan areas went up in the past week, but not as rapidly as in previous weeks," said AAA Public Affairs Director Elliott Eki.
