U.S. Average Gas Prices Continues to Plummet; Oregon Average Price Inching Downward

National average is down another 12-cents in the past week, while Oregon prices only drop by a nickel. The national average is now $2.61; Oregon's avg. is $2.92, tied with Washington's average price for 7th highest in nation.

(SALEM) - Gas station In the past week, the national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline dropped another 12-cents to $2.61; in Oregon, the price fell by a nickel a gallon to $2.92, 30-cents higher than the national average.

Salem drivers are paying an average of $2.89 while Portland residents are seeing a better average price of $2.87 for a gallon of regular.

Eugene/Springfield area regular is selling for an average of $2.92 and $2.93 is the average price for a gallon of regular in the Ashland/Medford area. Vancouver residents are paying an average of $2.87

National/Oregon Average Gasoline Prices Falling

National average gasoline price still sliding downward at a fairly good clip; Oregon's decline is much slower...but at least heading lower.

(SALEM) - Gas station at night Since last week, the national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline dropped another 8-cents to $2.84. In Oregon, the decline was less dramatic—about 2-cents per gallon to $3.01.

Salem’s average of $2.96 is above Portland’s cost of $2.94 for a gallon of regular.

Oregon Gasoline Prices Climbing; Diesel at Record Highs across the State

Oregon gasoline prices on the rise; national dropping. Big story is price of diesel. National avg. is up only 2-cents per gallon since last week. Oregon is up 15-cents per gallon to $3.35.

BP Pipeline Closure Has Minimal Impact at Gasoline Pumps—So Far

Overnight statewide average price spiked by less than a penny per gallon over the BP pipeline announcement. National average price held steady, but during the past week, state and national average rose by 3-cents. Oregon now ranks 30th among 50 states and District of Columbia.

(SALEM) - Compressor Station at Prudhoe Bay, Alaska A day after BP announced the closure of one of its Prudhoe Bay pipelines; a more thorough, although incomplete, assessment of conditions offers some optimism. While the market price of crude oil immediately jumped and closed Monday at just under $77 per barrel, average gasoline prices, even in the Pacific Northwest, remained fairly stable.

West Coast Gas Prices May Soar After BP Shutdown of Prudhoe Bay Oil Field And Pipeline

Over time, these actions will reduce Alaska North Slope oil production by an estimated 400,000 barrels per day.

(ANCHORAGE, Ak.) - Prudhoe Bay BP Exploration Alaska, Inc. has begun an orderly and phased shutdown of the Prudhoe Bay oil field following the discovery of unexpectedly severe corrosion and a small spill from a Prudhoe Bay oil transit line. Shutting down the field will take days to complete.

The decision follows the receipt on Friday of data from a smart pig run completed in late July. Analysis of the data revealed 16 anomalies in 12 locations in an oil transit line on the eastern side of the oil field.

A pipeline inspection gauge or PIG, is a tool that is sent down a pipeline and propelled by the pressure of the product in the pipeline itself. It is the chief tool used in pigging.

Oregon, National Average Gasoline Prices Moving in Opposite Directions

National average is up about a penny a gallon since last week; Oregon’s statewide average Is down about a penny; Portland leads the way with gas selling a nickel cheaper than Salem.

(SALEM) - image: gas station In the past week, the national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline went up a penny but Oregon's statewide average dropped a penny. In the Portland metropolitan area, the decline was almost 2-cents per gallon.

The Oil Price Information Service, OPIS, which provides AAA's daily fuel price information, said demand is the primary driver behind current prices.

"OPIS analysts indicate West Coast fuel demand is down compared to the rest of the nation," said AAA Oregon Public Affairs Director Elliott Eki. "The most noticeable drop was in California when retail prices hit $3.40 earlier this summer. It appears the tipping point was reached there and motorists really put the skids on discretionary driving, pushing regional demand down."

National Average Gas Price Pushes Upward to Three Dollars as Oregon`s Average Slides Down

U.S. average continues to go up; as Oregon's continues to go down. Oregon's average price now ranks 25th in the nation.

( SALEM) - gas nozzle As the national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline continues its steady march forward, Oregon's average price is in retreat.

Since last week, the national average price gained more than 2-cents per gallon and currently stands at $3; Oregon's average price fell a tenth of a cent to $2.969. Salem’s average price for a gallon of regular is $2.94, while the average price in the Portland metropolitan area went down by more than a penny a gallon to $2.90.

But in the Medford-Ashland area, the average price increased by almost 3-cents per gallon to $3.03. Eugene drivers are paying $3.00 and Vancouver, Washington residents are seeing an average price of $2.94 for self serve regular.

Gasoline Prices Remain Stable Despite Record High Crude Costs

Crude hit $79 last week. The national average jumped very slightly, while Oregon's fell. The record high oil prices probably will be felt soon, especially if the Lebanon-Israel conflict spreads to Iran.

(SALEM) - gas pump Gasoline pricing this past week might be described as confusing at best. Gasoline prices held steady across the United States with the current national average for a gallon of regular up by less than a penny to $2.98. Oregon's statewide average actually backed off slightly to $2.97.

Salem area drivers are paying $2.94 for a gallon of regular. The Portland metropolitan area average price fell by almost 2-cents per gallon, while in Eugene-Springfield it went up by almost 2-cents.

"Following a week of record high crude oil prices, which topped out at more than $79 per barrel, pump prices were expected to spike upward," said AAA Oregon Public Affairs Director Elliott Eki.

Gasoline Prices on the Rise Nationwide

Fuel prices, nationwide, on the rise. The biggest jumps are in the Midwest and East Coast areas where demand is high due to increasing numbers of drivers and vehicles on the roads. Crude oil still in mid-$70 per barrel range. OPIS forecasts it could eclipse $80 or more in the next 60 days.

(SALEM) - Gasoline prices continue their forward march, and since last week, the national average gained almost 4-cents to $2.97 per gallon. In Oregon, the increase was a bit slower—almost 2-cents per gallon to $2.97. Of the state's four measured metropolitan areas, the greatest increase was in Salem—3 and a half cents per gallon, at $2.93.

Regular gasoline in Portland is selling for $2.93; drivers in Eugene/Springfield are paying $2.98. Medford/Ashland gasoline is currently $3.019 and Vancouver, Washington residents are paying an average of $2.95.

Crude oil continues to trade in the mid-$70 per barrel range. Analysts at the Oil Price Information Service, which provides AAA's fuel information, forecast that momentum, spurred by demand and the increasing number of drivers and vehicles, could push the price of crude to more than $80 per barrel within the next 60 days.

Oregon Average Gasoline Price Still Declining as National Average Continues Climb

(SALEM) - During the past week, the national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline increased by almost 8 cents to $2.93—the highest since mid-May. Oregon's statewide average, however, continued its downward trend, dropping to $2.96. Salem continues to have the state’s cheapest gas prices, with a gallon of regular selling for $2.89.

Crude oil currently is trading at more than $70 per barrel, largely in response to recent global developments.
