Oregon Average Gasoline Price Still Declining

Heavy July 4th travel could drive up demand and pump prices. Oregon average prices are still falling, but crude oil is closing above $70 per barrel again.

(SALEM) - gas station After one week below the $70 per barrel mark, the price of crude oil is again above that threshold and although the national average gasoline price is down a penny from one week ago, it moved slightly upward over the weekend.

Oregon's statewide average price for a gallon of regular in the same time period went down another 4-cents to $2.98. In three of the four measured metropolitan areas in the state, the decline was more than a nickel a gallon.

Crude Oil, Average Gasoline Prices Move Downward

Prices continue to fall, with crude oil prices bouncing a bit.

(SALEM) - As the price of crude oil remains below $70 per barrel, consumers enjoy a steady decline in fuel prices. In the past week, the national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline fell by more than 3-cents; Oregon's statewide average decline was almost a nickel a gallon.

Salem drivers are paying an average of $3.01 for a gallon of regular gas. Average prices in the Eugene-Springfield and the Medford-Ashland metropolitan areas dropped by six-cents per gallon.

For the first time since May 9th, the Portland average price is less than $3 with per gallon prices ranging from $2.84 in Troutdale to as much as $3.08 in other sections of the metro area.

Oregon Average Gasoline Price Down; as National Average Inches Forward

(SALEM) - gas nozzle For the second consecutive week, the national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline moved forward—going up by almost 3-cents per gallon. The Oregon statewide average, however, dropped almost 3-cents to $3.06. The average price for a gallon of regular in Salem and Portland is $3.02.

Yet, the national average price remains more than 16 cents per gallon lower than the Oregon average. In Oregon's four measured metropolitan areas, Salem recorded a four-and-a-half cent per gallon drop in the average price.

Some concern that Tropical Storm Alberto had the possibility of disrupting Gulf Coast oil operations kept oil prices above $70 per barrel. Now that the storm is passing, prices may start dropping.

Cherriots Taking Part in Dump the Pump Day June 8th

National Dump the Pump Day is sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association, a non-profit association of more than 1,600 member organizations, including almost 400 public transit agencies.

(SALEM) - gas prices image Cherriots will join with other public transportation systems throughout the country to highlight that public transit offers a quick, easy alternative to the high cost of driving.

"With gasoline prices at record levels, many Oregonians are having to change their transit habits," said John Whittington, Director of Transit Development.

"By using public transportation on a regular basis, a person can save hundreds of dollars in fuel costs per year," Whittington said. "Those savings could be added back into household budgets to meet necessities, pay off bills, or just have fun," Whittington added.

Post Holiday Average Gasoline Prices Moving Downward

(SALEM) - gas guage While the national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline remained flat during the Memorial Day weekend, prices in Oregon and its four measured metropolitan areas hit record highs. Salem`s average price for a gallon of gas is $3.07. Portland`s $3.09 trails the capitol city price and Eugene/Springfield residents are paying an average of $3.15.

The current national average stands at $2.85, more than a penny a gallon less than a week ago.

Oregon's statewide average price is up nine-tenths of a cent since last week to $3.11 per gallon. The Oregon and metropolitan area average prices climbed to new highs during the weekend, but by the end of Monday, they backed off by as much as a cent and a half per gallon in the Medford/Ashland region; Portland's average held steady at $3.10.

"Now that we made it through the first big driving holiday of the summer, we should get a better idea of what to expect in coming months, depending, of course, on how the many factors affecting oil prices behave," said AAA Oregon Public Affairs Director Elliott Eki.

AAA Projects Slight Increase In Memorial Day Travel Despite High Fuel Costs

In Oregon, regular gasoline currently averages $3.08, 39-cents higher than a month ago and 65-cents higher than a year ago.

Salem-News.com Mid-Valley Fuel Watch Report

The rising cost of gasoline in the Mid-Wilamette Valley takes a pause just short of the three dollar mark.

(SALEM) - The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded seems to be stabilizing in the mid-valley.

An overnight gas price in Salem of $2.98 is unchanged from Sunday.

In Eugene the price is $3.08, in Portland-Vancouver the price is $2.99, and in Medford-Ashland the price rose slightly to $3.08.

On Sunday, the statewide average rose to $3.03.9, in Salem the average price is now $2.98.2.
