Fish Restoration and Enhancement Board to meet in Corvallis

(CORVALLIS, Oregon) - The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife’s Fish Restoration and Enhancement Board will meet on Fri., Nov. 5 at the ODFW Corvallis Office, 7118 NE Vandenberg, Corvallis.

The meeting will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The agenda includes an R&E Program budget and administrative update, Board elections, review of new project proposals and other program business.

Fall Chinook Fishery Closes on Snake River

(ENTERPRISE, Ore.) - The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife is reminding anglers that fall chinook fishing on the Snake River ends Oct. 31, 2010 at 11:59 p.m. Anglers will still be able to harvest fin-clipped hatchery steelhead through April 30, 2011.

States reopen lower Columbia chinook season

Under the rule change, the entire Columbia is open to chinook, coho and steelhead fishing through Dec. 31

(CLACKAMAS, Ore.) - Chinook salmon fishing will reopen on the lower Columbia River downstream of the Lewis River from Oct. 15 through the end of the year.

In a joint hearing this week, the Oregon and Washington departments of fish and wildlife decided to reopen recreational chinook salmon fishing on the Columbia from Buoy 10 upstream approximately 88 miles to the mouth of the Lewis River.

ODFW Seeks Comments on Plan to Restore Upper Willamette Salmon and Steelhead

(SALEM, Ore.) - Three state and federal agencies are hosting a series of four public meetings on the soon-to-be released plan to restore spring chinook and winter steelhead populations in the upper Willamette River Basin. The meetings are sponsored by the State of Oregon’s Governors Natural Resources Office, the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Marine Fisheries Service.

The Upper Willamette River Salmon and Steelhead Conservation and Recovery Plan is a roadmap to help rebuild spring chinook salmon and steelhead populations in the Willamette Basin.

ODFW seeks candidates for Fish Screening Task Force

(SALEM, Ore.) - The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife is seeking a member to represent agricultural interests on the state’s Fish Screening Task Force.

The ODFW Fish Screening Program helps water users install and maintain fish screens to prevent fish from entering water diversions. The Task Force advises ODFW on program development, implementation, monitoring, technology, funding and reporting.

Oregon`s State Forest Stewardship Coordinating Committee to Meet in Salem

(SALEM, Oregon) - Oregon's State Forest Stewardship Coordinating Committee will meet on Thursday October 14, 2010 from 10:00am to 3:00pm at the Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) headquarters in Salem, 2600 State Street (Operations Building D - Santiam meeting room).

The proposed agenda for the meeting includes review and evaluation of five conservation projects submitted to ODF for potential funding by the Federal Fiscal Year 2012 Forest Legacy Program. Projects will be prioritized using National Forest Legacy Program scoring guidelines.

Coquille wild coho fishery closes Monday

(CHARLESTON, Ore.) - This is the last weekend of the season to fish for wild coho in the Coquille River. Beginning Monday, Oct. 11, the fishery will beodfw closed because the harvest quota of 1,200 fish is projected to be met, ODFW fishery managers said.

"Earlier this week, the harvest estimate approached 80 percent of the allowable quota. With the rains coming Friday night, coho will be on the move and, with higher weekend effort, we're projecting a high catch rate this weekend," said Mike Gray, ODFW fish biologist. "It's been a fantastic season, and we're glad we could give people the opportunity to take a wild coho salmon."

Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission adopted an Updated 2010 Oregon Wolf Conservation and Management Plan

(BEND, Ore.) - The update makes minor changes to the original Plan to make it more practical. Many of the changes are intended to improve the management of wolf-livestock conflicts and are based on five years of experience implementing the original Wolf Plan.

$500 REWARD: For Information about Illegal Deer Kill in Harney County

Officials say the deer was shot sometime during the evening of September 17 or the morning of September 18, 2010.

(BURNS, Ore.) - Oregon State Police (OSP) Fish and Wildlife Division troopers from the Burns work site are asking for the public's help to identify the suspect(s) responsible for an illegal deer kill that occurred within the city limits of Hines, Oregon. A reward of up to $500 for information leading to an arrest in this case is being offered by the Oregon Hunters Association Turn in a Poacher (T.I.P.) Program. The T.I.P. reward program pays for information leading to the arrest and conviction of person(s) involved in the illegal killing, taking, possession or waste of big game animals, upland game birds or waterfowl.

Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission Makes `Hunter Orange` Mandatory for Youth

Kids must wear hunter orange by 8/1/11...unless they're already in the safety habit.

(BEND, Ore.) - The Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission today made wearing hunter orange mandatory for youth 17 years of age and younger. The rule will take effect August 1, 2011.

The rule will require the wearing of a hunter orange upper garment OR hat for youth hunters while hunting game mammals and upland birds (except turkey) with any firearm.
