Dash for Empty Bowls Fundraiser at Willamette Art Center

Last year, the fundraiser generated $13,600 for MPFS, $1,600 more than the previous year

(Salem, Oregon) - Empty Bowls and the Willamette Art Center When the doors open to Willamette Art Center on Saturday, Nov. 20, visitors will feast their eyes upon 1,000 handmade ceramic bowls that have been prepared all year long by 24 stalwart volunteers in preparation for Empty Bowls, an annual fundraiser benefiting Marion-Polk Food Share.

“Every year we make more bowls for food share. It’s amazing,” said WAC spokesperson Karin Putnam. “We want to be involved in giving back to our community. We feel really blessed at the center.”

YWCA Salem COPE Classes offering in morning in November and December

Willamette Ready to Host NCAA West Regional in Cross Country

Action Set for Saturday Men at 11 a.m., Women at 12 p.m.

(Salem, Oregon) - Salem-News.com Sports Willamette University will host the 2010 NCAA Division III West Regional in cross country this Saturday on the grass course at Bush's Pasture Park. Action will get underway with the 8-kilometer men's race at 11 a.m. (PST), followed by the 6-kilometer women's race at 12 p.m.

Oregon State Men’s Basketball to Host Nike N7 Game

To Raise Awareness for the Need to Bring Access to Sport to Native American and Aboriginal Youth

(CORVALLIS, Oregon) - Beavers logo The Oregon State men’s basketball team will host the Nike N7 Oregon State Basketball Game presented by Spirit Mountain Casino on Sunday, Nov. 21, at 4:30 p.m. against Texas Southern, Director of Athletics Bob De Carolis announced Monday.

Oregon State is partnering with Nike N7 and Spirit Mountain Casino to honor Native American Heritage Month and wear special uniforms designed by Nike for the game, which will be unveiled during a press conference at the Valley Football Center on November 16.

Oregon State Women’s Basketball Invites Public to Meet and Greet on Wednesday

(Corvallis, Oregon) - Beavers logo The 2010-11 Oregon State women’s basketball team, led by first-year head coach Scott Rueck, invites the public to a meet this year’s squad and staff on Wednesday, Nov. 10, at 6:00 p.m. in the Reser Loge.

All 10 players on this season’s roster, as well as Rueck, assistant coaches Mark Campbell and Eric Ely, director of operations Ashley Shearer and assistant director of operations Claire Faucher will all be in attendance to meet Beaver women’s basketball fans. Appetizers and drinks will be provided.

YWCA Salem Discover Pink Celebrates This Year’s Walk

(SALEM, Oregon) - YWCA Pink Walk The YWCA Salem Women’s Health Program celebrated the accomplishments of everyone who participated in the 6th Annual Discover Pink Walk during a “Thank You” party held on Saturday. “Based on this year’s donations and team contributions, we are pleased to announce $32, 911 was raised during this year’s walk,” said Women’s Health Program Director, Karla Iverson. Ms. Iverson also calculated that those donations would equate to 263 breast cancer screenings for local women in our area.

Teams were acknowledged during the hour long celebration held at the Green Room at the YWCA Salem.

Hundreds Attend Fire Station Open House in West Linn

(WEST LINN, Oregon) - The Brass Dedication Plaque on the Side of the Fire Station Today the firefighters at Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue's Bolton Fire Station in West Linn officially opened their doors to show the new facility to neighbors in West Linn. Families were able to learn about the daily lives of firefighters, see fire apparatus and learn about home fire escape planning.

Most importantly, fire personnel were able to express their gratitude to the citizens who helped build the fire station which will serve the community for decades to come.

Oregon Air National Guard to Take Part in Veterans Day Flyovers Around the State

(SALEM, Oregon) - 173d Fighter Wing F-15 The Oregon Air National Guard will conduct Veterans Day flyovers for various ceremonies at locations throughout Oregon and Southwest Washington.

F-15 Eagle fighter jets from the 142nd Fighter Wing in Portland and the 173rd Fighter Wing at Kingsley Field are scheduled to conduct flyovers at the following locations and approximate times:

All passes will be approximately 1,000 feet above ground level and 350 knots airspeed. Flights could be cancelled or times changed due to inclement weather or operational contingencies.
