State of Oregon, OSU to Observe Linus Pauling Day on Tuesday

Pauling earned the Nobel Prize in 1954 and 1962

(Corvallis) - One of the state's most honored natives, a Nobel Prize winner and one of the top scientists of the 20th century, will be honored Tuesday, which the State of Oregon has proclaimed as Linus Carl Pauling Day.

Salem Video and Film Festival a Big Hit

Event is one of three festivals set for Salem this year

(Monmouth, Oregon) - To celebrate First Amendment Day, WOU Student Media is encouraging students, faculty, and area citizens to gather to protest and/or celebrate any topic in a demonstration of the First Amendment right to assemble peaceably.

Sundance Finalist to Appear at Mid-Valley Video Festival

(Salem) - Sundance may be over and the Oscars yet to come, but Northern Lights Theater Pub is hosting a festival of their own Feb. 24th, 25th, and 26th: the third annual Mid-Valley Video Festival.

The festival began as a one day event at the Elsinore theater two years ago. Now it has expanded to an entire weekend and outgrown its original facilities. Over 14 hours of submissions are being sorted through. In addition, there will be a consumer advocacy screening of the Salem-filmed movie `One Flew Over the Cuckoo`s Nest.`

(Salem) - The annual First Citizens Banquet is the Salem Chamber's opportunity to honor outstanding citizens who give back to the Salem area community. Residents active in civic, business, and educational affairs are considered for the annual First Citizens award and/or the Distinguished Service Awards. Over 450 attendees joined in the celebration in recognition of the 2005 recipients as a part of the 2006 First Citizens Banquet, presented by West Coast Bank.

Albany Author of How I Lost 80 Pounds Will Speak March 1st

Willamette University to Celebrate Africa Day

The Salem community is invited to eat African food, dance to live African music, shop in an African market, listen to African stories, view an African film and participate in a panel discussion on Africa today.

(Salem) - Willamette University students, faculty and staff will honor Black History Month by holding the school`s first Africa Day Celebration on Thursday.

Campus activities will run from 11:30 AM to 10 PM.

All activities are free and open to the public.
