Brief Comment on Failed on GOP Health Care Proposal

If the AHCA had passed, 14 million more people would have become uninsured next year

(SAN FRANCISCO) - The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) or ObamaCare, was signed into law on March 23, 2010. According to the Department of Health and Human Services, 20 million people are newly insured as a result of the ACA.

Since passage of the ACA, it is estimated that the Republicans have unsuccessfully tried to repeal all or part of the ACA at least 60 times.

An ambulance arrived a few minutes later and I was transported to the Foothills Hospital in Calgary. (My out-of-pocket cost for this trip was $110 although I didn’t have to pay it until later.)

At the hospital a few hours later I had an MRI. I was in hospital for a total of five days. I did not have to pay anything for this—my out-of-pocket cost was $0. There was no deductible or co-pay. It’s called “universal health care”.

Failure of TrumpCare Incites Mixed Reactions

The Republican bill to repeal Obamacare has failed.

(SALEM, Ore.) - House leaders cancelled today’s vote on the American Health Care Act, or “TrumpCare,” because the bill lacks the support to pass.

Oregon's Senator Jeff Merkley says now is the time to fix what's broken with ObamaCare. "Following today’s TrumpCare failure, it’s time for Republicans to cease and desist in their plans to destroy American health care. I’m happy to work with anyone, from either side of the aisle, to explore these or any other ideas that would improve health care for working Americans."

Israel Tries to Block All Aid to Gaza

(ISTANBUL, TR) - On 12th February 2017 TIKA Gaza Office staff Mohammed Mortaja, who was supposed to participate in a training in Turkey, was detained in Israel at the Erez checkpoint, regardless of his official permits granted by Israel.

Mortaja has been held in custody and interrogated to this day by Israel Intelligence services, while prohibited from seeing his lawyer and from using any kind of communication without any official explanation or comment. Mortaja, who is married with four children, has been working for TIKA since 2012.

Remains of Kennewick Man The Ancient One Laid to Rest

Since the discovery, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has curated the remains at the Burke Museum under the Archaeological Resources Protection Act, and followed the Native Americans Graves Protection and Repatriation Act.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Northwestern Division (Corps) transferred the human remains known as the Kennewick Man, or the Ancient One, to the Washington State Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation (Washington) on Friday, Feb. 17 on the condition that the Department then repatriate the human remains to the five Columbia River Plateau tribes.

The transfer took place at the Burke Museum in Seattle, Washington where the remains have been curated since 1998.

(DAMASCUS, Syria) - Ten-year old Ghina Wadi had another of what hopefully will be a leg saving operation last Friday. She has spent the past seven months often in unbearable pain, which for the first month was periodically relieved for only approximately 15 minutes at a time- by heavy injections of morphine.

Ghina was shot by a sniper on 8/2/2016 on the main street in Madaya at the Abdel Majed checkpoint when she was on her way to buy medicine for her mother, Sahar. Her accompanying seven-year-old sister Nagham was also injured in her hand and arm.

During the primaries and general election, Trump's assault on the media was quite successful. He ran a media campaign directly against the media, helping himself to the copious media attention available to a TV star while disparaging journalists at every podium and venue.
