Salem, Keizer Chambers of Commerce Sign Up For Drug-Free Workplace Initiative

The drug-free workplace initiative is an element of the Oregon Business Plan, a 12-point strategy that state business leaders have crafted to strengthen the state’s commerce, payrolls and economy. DHS provides funding and staff support.

(SALEM) - Drug testing A statewide initiative aimed at tripling the number of Oregon employers who adopt and enforce drug-free workplace policies by the end of 2008 is adding seven more communities as pilot sites.

The Oregon Department of Human Services initiative is adding two Portland business organizations and the chambers of commerce of Astoria-Warrenton, Cannon Beach, Keizer, McMinnville, Salem and Seaside.

Albany Police Seize Drugs, Weapons

Two children ages 1 and 2 were taken into protective custody.

(ALBANY) - Seizer weapons On Thursday morning, officers of the Albany Police Department conducted a welfare check at 1900 SE Del Rio Avenue #C. The welfare check was in response to a Department of Human Services (DHS) referral that there was possible drug usage and drug dealing at the residence

Officers contacted the occupants of the home and their two children ages 1 and 2.

The occupants were identified as 28-year-old Dusty Ray Anderson and 22-year-old Shawna Marie Brady. During a consent search of the home the officers located over 1/2 pound of marijuana, methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, a loaded sawed off shotgun, a .45 caliber derringer and surveillance cameras.

Meth Arrest Yields More Than 125 Stolen Items

Anyone that is missing tools and construction type equipment from a recent burglary or theft should call Keizer Police at 503-856-3478.

(KEIZER) - Suspect Sidney Lucein Carlson A Keizer man is in custody on over a million and a half-dollars bail after his arrest for possession and sales of meth charges. Jeff Isham with Keizer Police says the arrest concluded a month long drug investigation.

Keizer detectives served a search warrant at 926 Appleblossom Drive NE Wednesday afternoon, due to evidence they had gathered linking Sidney L. Carlson to methamphetamine sales.

Speeding Driver Arrested for Possession of Several Types of Illegal Drugs

Police say that up to eight different illegal substances were located after the 19-year old consented to a search of her car.

(SALEM) - A construction zone speed-related traffic stop early Friday morning on Interstate 5 in Salem led to the arrest of a 19-year old Roseburg woman on numerous drug charges.

The arrest came after an Oregon State Police trooper and his trained drug dog "Reggie" located several different types of illegal drugs and cash in the car.

Friday morning at approximately 1:15 AM, Oregon State Police Senior Trooper Joseph Delgreco stopped a northbound 2003 Volkswagon Jetta on Interstate 5 near milepost 256, for traveling 78 mph in a 50 mph work zone area.

Benton County Commissioners Proclaim September as Alcohol And Drug Addiction Recovery Month

The proclamation is an effort to reduce drug use, support recovering substance abusers and reduce the risk of teen drug use in Benton County.

(CORVALLIS) - Benton County Courthouse The Benton County Board of Commissioners has proclaimed the month of September 2006 as Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month in Benton County and September 25th as Family Day - A Day to Eat Dinner with Your Children in Benton County.

According to Jay Dixon, chair of the Benton County Board of Commissioners, the county believes it’s vital to educate the community about the impact of substance use disorders on children and families.

Huge Pot Bust Worth Almost $10 Million Near Scio (NEW PICS ADDED)

Police have raided a huge marijuana growing operation in the mountains between Scio and Lyons that they say had a street value of over $9 million.

(ALBANY) - File photo of marijuana seizure Linn County Sheriff Tim Mueller says members of the Linn Drug Task Force have eradicated the large outdoor marijuana operation that was discovered in a remote area.

Beginning Wednesday and continuing through Thursday, Linn County deputies, along with members of the DEA and the Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue Post pulled and destroyed 4,707 mature marijuana plants.

Former Prosecutor Tells Why Oregon`s Drug Courts Work

(CLACKAMAS) - Former prosecutor Robert Selander When I was Curry County deputy district attorney in the early 1970s I sought long penitentiary sentences for most drug offenders. I believed prison was the ultimate sanction. I was wrong.

Practice has shown that putting people behind bars doesn't affect their drug use. For many offenders jail is a social club where old friends meet. Released addicts simply go back to their other friends, old neighborhoods and addictions.

What works for many offenders is drug court.

Salem Man Arrested, Drug Enforcement Agents Seize One Pound of Meth

A pound of meth police say they found in a hidden compartment, has a street value estimated in excess of $40,000.

(REDMOND) - Man handcuffed Agents from the Central Oregon Drug Enforcement Team found a pound of methamphetamine worth over $40,000 in a hidden compartment of a van in the parking lot of the Redmond Wal-Mart on Friday.

The driver of the van, 33 year-old Jose Perez-Chavez, of Salem, was arrested on multiple charges and taken to the Deschutes County Jail.

Over 13 Pounds of Marijuana Found at Traffic Crash Scene, Three Arrested

(GRANTS PASS) - Oregon State Police troopers arrested three Portland-area men Saturday night after responding to a single vehicle rollover crash northbound Interstate 5 near Rogue River and finding over 13 pounds of marijuana.

Oregon State Police Sergeant Mark Byrd and Senior Trooper Greg Costanzo, with his drug dog "Cookie", responded to a single vehicle rollover crash northbound on Interstate 5 near milepost 48 around 6:30 PM Saturday.

Upon arriving at the scene, police say they found there were three occupants one of which subsequently was transported for treatment of minor injuries.

Preliminary investigation indicated a 2002 Ford Explorer driven by 35-year old Scott Firkus of Milwaukie, Oregon was northbound on Interstate 5 when it drifted into the center median and rolled several times. Firkus was accompanied in the vehicle by two male passengers identified as 23-year old Matthew kahoe of from northeast Portland, and 34-year old William Walker of Oregon City.
