US Urges Myanmar to Probe Attacks on Muslims

The Secretary General urged the government of Myanmar to adhere to the framework it agreed to, to enforce the rule of law and to keep it's assurances to respect human rights and fundamental freedoms.
(RIYADH, Saudi Arabia) -
Iyad Ameen Madani, the Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the OIC, expressed deep concern regarding the recent events of 14th January, 2014 in which looting, raping and killing of Rohingya Muslim civilian citizens in southern Maungdaw, Rakhine State took place.
These events, stressed The Secretary General, violate the basic rights of the Rohingya Muslims to be protected as citizens and as a minority by their own government.
We will carry more information on this development, for now the severe tense situation is still prevailing in the area.

Sources in Myanmar report that police shot and killed eight Rohingya people in a new round of sectarian strife in Kiladon village near Maungdaw. Sheerrsha News in Dhaka and The BBC report that a meeting is taking place in Godusara today.
Nurul Islam with Grassroots Welfare Association, Bangladesh (GWAB), says they received news from a reliable source from Maungdaw that the exact death toll could be higher. At this point, people Kiladon village are still trying to determine the number of casualties.
This time many women were raped, tortured and killed.

Myanmar Ethnic Rohingya Human Rights Organization Malaysia (MERHROM) strongly condemns the Myanmar government for the new attack on the ethnic Rohingya in Kela Daung Village, Maungdaw Township.
The information received by MERHROM reveals that the attack started on 13 January 2014. Within 2 days more than 250 Rohingya women, men and children has been killed by the Myanmar security forces, namely Loonthing, and police together with ethnic Rakhine.

The main intention behind the forced Rakhinized Muslim instead of Rohingya Muslim is nothing except de-Rohingya Muslim”
The unrest is taking place in villages south of Maungdaw.

According to a reliable news source from Maungdaw, some Rohingya women have been taken to Maungdaw Lun Htin Headquarters from the Kiladaung village (Du Chiradan village), located six miles south of Maungdaw, after Lun Htin (Govt. security forces) failed to arrest male villagers.
It is alleged that last night, a Lun Htin, along with his other Rakhine Buddhist associates, entered the village, reportedly for the purpose of looting.
