OIC Blasts Burma Govt.

Role of UN`s own Review Panel Head Scrutinized

Petrie’s working for the Norwegian government while at the same time working for the UN panel could be in conflict with the UN Charter depending on how it is interpreted.

(COLOMBO Daily Mirror) - Charles Petrie The head of the Norwegian government-funded peace initiative for Burma’s ethnic areas, Charles Petrie, is facing scrutiny after it was revealed last week that he is simultaneously working on an unrelated United Nation’s review panel looking into the Sri Lankan civil war.

An article posted last Friday suggests that Petrie’s involvement with the ambitious Norwegian project may run afoul of UN rules forbidding staff from being employed or under the influence of the governments of UN member states.

(DHAKA, Bangladesh) - Buthidaung jail in Sittwe The death of a Buddhist woman, Ma Thida Twe, Tongup in last May, 2012 brought peril for the vulnerable Muslim Rohingyas living in Burma's Arakan state.

As a result of the ensuing violence, displaced Rohingya refugees are living in unhealthy tents mostly in Sittwe, facing starvation and falling sick due to inadequate food supply and lack of treatment and medicines.

The Rohingya people of Burma are being slaughtered and nobody of political import in the west cares.

(SITTWE / SACRAMENTO) - Murdered man from Anaung Pyin Village, in Ra Tha Taung Township, Burma Any time a person is murdered it is a tragedy; but when a human being is tortured to death, it is more than a tragedy; it is a blemish of unrelenting shame upon the entire human race.

No such treatment of prisoners under restraint is ever acceptable, though one can understand from the example set by world leaders like former U.S. President George W. Bush, how people could get the wrong idea.

Burmese Troops Fire Warning Shots at Crowd in Sittwe

The police station in Sittwe is also refusing to confirm any details of the incident when contacted by Narinjara.

(SITTWE, Burma) - Police in Myanmar Burmese security forces fired warning shots in the air to disperse a crowd who targeted and besieged a Muslim ward in Sittwe on Friday night, said officials and local residents.

It took place at around 8 PM one day after the authority eased the hours of the curfew. The curfew has been reduced from 7 pm to 5 am to a six-hour period between 10 pm and 4 am from the 11th October.

New `Retaliatory` Attacks on Myanmar`s Rohingyas

Rohingya activists have alleged that Myanmar's Buddhist protesters have launched fresh attacks on Muslims in retaliation to last week's attacks by Muslims on Buddhist temples and houses in Bangladesh.

(LONDON) - Burma 2012 Nurul Islam, a Rohingya activist in Bangladesh, told DW that a number of Myanmar Buddhists took out a protest rally on Sunday against the attacks on Buddhist temples and houses in Bangladesh.

He alleged that the protesters attacked a 400-year-old mosque and burnt hundreds of copies of the Muslim holy book, the Koran, and other religious texts.
