Salehi Calls for Respecting Muslims` Rights in Myanmar

The majority of Myanmar population are followers of Buddhism and the government of that country is not willing to recognize the Muslim Rohingya community.

(TEHRAN Trend) - Ali Akbar Salehi Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi in a telephone conversation with his Myanmar counterpart Wunna Maung Lwin called on the Myanmar government to respect the basis rights of that country's Muslim minority, IRNA reported.

He called for an end to the ongoing ethnic conflicts in that country as well as restoration of the rights of Muslims living in that country.

Myanmar Unrest Could Develop into `Terrorism` Govt

Communal bloodshed in western Myanmar risks developing into "armed terrorist acts", the government said Wednesday, after homemade firearms were used in the latest deadly fighting.

(YANGON, Myanmar RNW) - Salem-News.com The government said 180 guns were seized during the new wave of conflict between Buddhists and Muslims in Rakhine state, which has killed dozens and seen whole neighbourhoods razed.

Myanmar President Declines Tripartite Talks on Arakan Violence

Talks proposed between the ASEAN, UN and Myanmar's reformist government.

(KUALA LUMPUR AFP) - Increasing numbers of people worldwide are responding to the call to help save the Rohingya population of Myanmar / Burma. Myanmar rejected an offer by the ASEAN to open talks aimed at quelling deadly communal violence there.

Secretary-General Surin Pitsuwan said he proposed setting up tripartite talks to prevent the violence having a broader regional impact.
