Oregon to Play South Florida in Sun Bowl

Oregon, 8-4, finished the regular season with a 38-31 double-overtime loss to Oregon State Saturday.

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - dennis dixon The University of Oregon has accepted an invitation to play the University of South Florida in the 74th annual Brut Sun Bowl Monday, Dec 31, in El Paso, Texas.

Kickoff for the Ducks’ third appearance in the post-season contest since 1999 is slated for 11 a.m. (PST) and will be televised nationally on CBS.

Blazers Beat Memphis on Outlaw Buzzer Beater

Rudy Gay had 30 points for Memphis.

(MEMPHIS, Tenn.) - blazers logoTravis Outlaw scored 21 points, including the winning 6-foot runner as the buzzer sounded, to give the Trail Blazers their first road victory of the season, 106-105 over the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday night.

It was Outlaw's second buzzer-beater of the game as his 30-footer at the horn cut Memphis' lead to 80-78 at the end of three quarters.

Brandon Roy had 26 points for Portland, which had lost its first nine road games this season. LaMarcus Aldridge finished with 23 points.

Ohio State - LSU to Meet in BCS Championship Game

Big Ten equals conference record with bowl bids for eight different teams.

(PARK RIDGE, Ill.) - BCS logoThe Big Ten office announced the bowl destinations for six more conference football programs tonight, including sending a pair of teams to Bowl Championship Series (BCS) games for the seventh time in the system’s 10 years.

Big Ten Champion Ohio State will make a second straight trip to the BCS National Championship game while Illinois will take part in the Rose Bowl for the first time since 1984.

Nebraska Hopes Pelini Will Resurrect Cornhusker Football

Pelini has been defensive coordinator at LSU, helping the Tigers to three consecutive years of a top-three national ranking in total defense.

(LINCOLN, Neb.) - Bo PeliniUniversity of Nebraska Interim Athletic Director Tom Osborne Sunday named Bo Pelini the school’s 28th head football coach – and only the fifth head coach since 1962.

Osborne said his eight-day search for a successor to Bill Callahan was based on analyzing the qualities of individual coaches and balancing them with the needs of the program. “We need a head coach with strong defensive credentials and great leadership,” Osborne said.

Spurs Star Tim Duncan Injured in Win over Portland

Tony Parker scored 27 points and dished out eight assists for the Spurs.

(SAN ANTONIO) - Tim DuncanThe San Antonio Spurs coasted to a 100-79 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday.

Tim Duncan bruised his right knee and sprained his right ankle in the first half and did not return to the game. The team said all of Duncan's ligaments appeared stable but that he would undergo an MRI exam on Monday.

The Beavers concluded the regular season winning six of their final seven games.

The Beavers will play the University of Maryland Terrapins of the Atlantic Coast Conference Fri., Dec. 28 at 5:30 p.m. at AT&T Park, home of the San Francisco Giants. The game will be broadcast by ESPN.

Kyler McClary led Willamette with a career-high 24 points.

(WHITTIER, Calif. ) - Kyler McClaryWillamette University lost by three points on the road for the second day in a row, as Whittier College defeated the Bearcats, 80-77, in Whittier, Calif., on Saturday.

The Bearcats fell to the University of La Verne, 84-81, in La Verne, Calif., on Friday. Willamette fell to 2-4 after losing to the Poets, while Whittier improved to 3-1.
