Dec-02-2007 19:30Oregon State to Meet Maryland in Emerald BowlSalem-News.com SPORTSThe Beavers concluded the regular season winning six of their final seven games.
CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State University Director of Athletics Bob De Carolis formally accepted Sunday an invitation for the football team to play in the 6th annual Emerald Bowl in San Francisco. The Beavers will play the University of Maryland Terrapins of the Atlantic Coast Conference Fri., Dec. 28 at 5:30 p.m. at AT&T Park, home of the San Francisco Giants. The game will be broadcast by ESPN. “We are proud to represent the Pac-10 Conference at the Emerald Bowl,” De Carolis said. “San Francisco is one of the great cities of the world and it’s proximity to `Beaver Nation’ certainly presents an opportunity to have terrific representation at the game. This has been an exciting year for Beaver football and I’m looking forward to another great bowl experience at a new destination that is centrally located in the Bay Area for many OSU alumni and the families of our student-athletes.” This is the seventh bowl game in the last nine seasons for Oregon State and the Beavers will enter with a Pac-10 best three-game postseason winning streak, all with head coach Mike Riley at the helm. The seven appearances in the last nine years is the third-best mark in the conference over that time period. “I’m excited for our team and our fans,” Riley said. “I’m really proud how this team battled and finished third in what was a very hard-fought conference race. I’m thrilled for our team, especially our seniors, who have worked so hard for this opportunity. We’re looking forward to the challenge of playing a very good Maryland team from a BCS conference.” The Beavers concluded the regular season winning six of their final seven games, including defeating No. 18 Oregon at Autzen Stadium in double overtime in the 111th Civil War 38-31 on Dec. 1. OSU finished third in the Pac-10 Conference with a 6-3 mark and 8-4 overall. Maryland ended the regular season tied for fifth in the Atlantic Division of the ACC and 6-6 overall with notable victories over then No. 8 Boston College and then No. 10 Rutgers. “Once again, the Emerald Bowl is able to bring together two outstanding, nationally-known programs,” Emerald Bowl Executive Director Gary Cavalli said. “Oregon State has a reputation as a team that travels well. The school has a ton of alumni in Northern California and they are anxious to come to San Francisco.” Tickets are on sale beginning at 8:30 a.m. Monday morning to 2007 OSU season ticket holders at the OSU Ticket Office in Gill Coliseum, by calling 1-800-GOBEAVS or online at www.osubeavers.com. The ticket office will remain open until 6 p.m. Monday. Beginning Tuesday general public tickets will be available from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Ticket locations will be based on Beaver Athletic Student Fund priority points. Source: OSU Athletics
