Bearcats Take Softball Doubleheader From Whitworth

The Bearcats blasted three home runs during the first game, including a grand slam by Katie Peterson that keyed a five-run second inning.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Katie PetersonWillamette University swept a Northwest Conference doubleheader from Whitworth University on Saturday at the WU Softball Field, winning the first game 17-3 on the run rule in five innings and taking the second game 6-4.

Nikki Franchi (Jr., RHP/DP, Los Gatos, CA/Saratoga HS) recorded both pitching wins and improved to 16-2 on the season.

Willamette Women Claim Seventh Straight NWC Title

Willamette head coach Matt McGuirk was selected NWC Women's Track and Field Coach of the Year.

(NEWBERG, Ore. ) - Jena WingerThe Willamette University women's track and field team won its seventh consecutive Northwest Conference title as action concluded at the NWC Championships on Saturday at George Fox University.

Jena Winger (Jr., Bonney Lake, WA/Sumner HS) was chosen the Women's Athlete of the Meet. Winger won the 3,00-meter steeplechase on Friday and added wins in the 1,500-meter run and the 5,000-meter run on Saturday.

Oregon State Rocks No. 2 Arizona State, 12-3

Jordan Lennerton capped off Oregon State’s nine-run win with a two-run home run to left in the ninth, the Beavers’ third home run of the game.

(TEMPE, Ariz.) - Joey WongTanner Robles scattered three hits and a run and Joey Wong and Lonnie Lechelt both hit two-out home runs in Oregon State’s 12-3 series clinching victory over No. 2 Arizona State Saturday night at Packard Stadium.

The series victory marked Oregon State’s first-ever at Arizona State and was the first time the Sun Devils dropped a Pacific-10 Conference series at home since Arizona took 2-of-3 in 2005.

Lady Bearcats Hold Lead at NWC Track and Field Championships

Sarah Zerzan and Jena Winger achieved provisional qualifying times for the NCAA Division III National Championships.

(NEWBERG, Ore. ) - Brooke SmithWillamette University won five individual titles on the first day of the Northwest Conference Track and Field Championships, Friday at George Fox University.

The Willamette women's team held first place in the team standings, while the Bearcat men were in third place and within striking distance of the lead.

Beavers Take Civil War Title Win Softball Win

Oregon State had five players with seven total hits, scoring all three runs in the first inning.

(CORVALLIS, Ore.) - Kelly DyerSophomore Kelly Dyer (Eugene, Ore.) pitched a one-hitter on Friday afternoon, supported by strong Beaver offense, in the team’s 3-1 win over Oregon on Friday afternoon at the OSU Softball Complex.

The win clinched the two Dodge Civil War Series points, as well as the overall series’ title to Oregon State for the third year out of the last four in a 9-8 decision.

Oregon State starter Mike Stutes took a no-hitter into the eighth inning and ended the night allowing three hits and four runs.

(TEMPE, Ariz.) - john wallaceJohn Wallace’s single to center became the game-winner as the Oregon State baseball team scored five in the ninth for a 6-4 comeback victory over No. 2 Arizona State Friday night at Packard Stadium.

Wallace’s single broke a 4-4 tie and the Beavers added an insurance run before Kevin Rhoderick came on in the ninth for his seventh save of the season.

Oregon Football: Defense Continues to Shine This Spring

The Ducks have three more full spring workouts before next Saturday’s spring game at 2 p.m. in Autzen Stadium.

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - oregon duckThe temperature was more than 40 degrees cooler than last week’s scrimmage, but otherwise Friday’s Oregon football exhibition was much of the same: A one-sided affair dictated by the defense.

A 5-of-8 passing day for junior transfer Cade Cooper and a few double-digit runs by running back LeGarrette Blount couldn’t cover up the fact that the Ducks’ offense stalled out on all but two of approximately 20 drives.
