Linfield Extends Lead in NWC Title Chase With Sweep

The wins added additional cushion in the NWC title chase for the Wildcats.

(McMINNVILLE, Ore. ) - Brittany MillerFourth-ranked Linfield dealt Northwest Conference rival Pacific its first back-to-back losses of the season, winning 1-0 and 8-3 Sunday on the Linfield diamond.

Unranked Pacific (27-5, 16-4 NWC) played the four-time defending champion Wildcats as tight as any team this season in the opener, but fell behind early in the nightcap and never recovered.

No. 2 Arizona State Wins Slugfest With Oregon State

Arizona State scored seven runs off five hits in 1 2/3 innings against Oregon State’s Jorge Reyes.

(TEMPE, Ariz. ) - Braden WellsThe Oregon State baseball team dropped the series finale to No. 2 Arizona State, 15-12, Sunday afternoon at Packard Stadium.

Braden Wells had three hits, tying a career-high set last season against Washington State. Joey Wong finished with two hits – a double in the second and two-run home run in the sixth – while Lonnie Lechelt posted singles in the second and fourth innings and a run-scoring double in the ninth.

Sexson, Batista Lead Mariners Past Angels

Miguel Batista (2-2) struck out eight batters over 7 2/3 innings for the Mariners.

(ANAHEIM) - Seattle Mariners LogoRight-hander Miguel Batista went on a rare strikeout binge and first baseman Richie Sexson hit his 299th career home run on Sunday afternoon as the Mariners salvaged the final game of a three-game series against the Angels with a 4-2 victory in front of a sellout crowd of 43,631 at Angel Stadium.

Sexson's third home run in the three-game series, and his fifth of the season, presented Batista with a two-run lead in the second inning.

The 26-year-old Rolex Rankings' number one has claimed five total victories this season, including 11 stroke romps at both the HSBC Women's Champions and the Corona Championship.

(REUNION, Fla.) - Lorena OchoaMexico's Lorena Ochoa etched her name into yet another category of the LPGA's record book with a $390,000, three-stroke victory at the Ginn OPEN on Sunday.

With the win, Ochoa (68-67-65-69=269, -19) tied the LPGA Tour record for most consecutive wins in scheduled events with four.

Bill Mott is the only other trainer to have four winners on a single Keeneland card, accomplishing the feat on April 9, 1995.

(LEXINGTON, Ky.) - Todd PletcherTrainer Todd Pletcher equaled a 13-year-old Keeneland record by saddling four winners on Saturday’s 10-race card before a crowd of 26,072.

Pletcher saddled six starters on the day, capped off by the victory by Behindatthebar ($13.60) in the Coolmore Lexington Stakes (G2).

DJ Jackson had over 100 yards rushing and scored on a dive into the end zone.

(WEST LINN, Ore. ) - WOU footballWestern Oregon's offense took center stage in WOU's first spring game of 2008, played on Saturday afternoon at West Linn High School.

The Wolves ran just over 100 plays in the scrimmage, with the offense scoring five times. "This time of year, you kind of expect the defense to be ahead of the offense,' said a pleased Wolves head coach Arne Ferguson.

Oregon Rolls Over UCLA in Track and Field

In his first 1,500 meters of the season, sophomore A.J. Acosta won in an NCAA regional time of 3:46.87.

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - Andrew WheatingMike Simmons led a sweep in the javelin to get Oregon off to a running start and the 4-by-400 meter relay team finished the win off in style as the Ducks defeated UCLA 94-69 Saturday before 4,451 at Historic Hayward Field.

The Ducks’ 94 points were the most scored by Oregon in the 16-meet history of the series, and the margin of victory, 25 points, was also the Ducks’ widest.
