Bearcats Tie Cal State-East Bay in Season Opener

Willamette scores late in regulation to force overtime.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - willamette sports logoWillamette senior midfielder Trevor Jones scored on an assist from Michael Rodrigues with just 6:04 remaining in regulation, as Willamette University forced overtime on its way to a 1-1 tie with California State University-East Bay, Friday at Sparks Field.

It was the season opener for both teams.

Neither team scored in the first half, although Willamette had a goal disallowed due to an offside violation.

Willamette Drops Two Matches on First Day of WU Volleyball Tournament

Bearcats fall to Warner Pacific, 3-0, and to UC-Santa Cruz, 3-1.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - willamette sports logoThe Bearcats opened the 2007 season with a pair of losses at the Willamette University Volleyball Tournament on Friday at Cone Field House.

Willamette fell to Warner Pacific College, 3-0, in the first match, as the Knights won 30-18, 30-27, 30-25.

In WU's second match, UC-Santa Cruz claimed a 3-1 victory by scores of 30-25, 31-29, 24-30 and 30-28.

Western Oregon Hosts Willamette to Open 2007 Campaign

WOu's offense includes a deep and veteran offensive line, a stable of 6-8 wide receivers, four running backs that are all break-away threats, and a veteran quarterback.

Bryant Leads USA Over Argentina, 91-76

Bryant led the USA with 27 points.

The win assured the USA of the No. 1 seed in Saturday's 4:00 p.m. (All times are PDT) semifinal contest against No. 4 seed Puerto Rico (3-4).

Argentina, the No. 2 seed, will play No. 3 seed Brazil (4-3) in the other semifinal contest that tips off at 1:00 p.m.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Corban Katie HansonIn the first official Soccer Under the Lights game for Corban's women's soccer team, the Warriors battled a tough squad from The Master's College and were unable to come away with the victory, 3-0, on Thursday in front of the home crowd.

In the 38th minute, the visiting Lady Mustangs got on the board when Sarah Baumgardner tallied The Master's College's first goal off the season off an assist from Katie McMannis.

Bernard Leads Oregon State Over Utah, 24-7

Oregon State was still without receiver Sammie Stroughter, although he watched from the sidelines Thursday night wearing his jersey.

Sophomore Sean Canfield completed eight of 19 passes for 87 yards and a touchdown for the Beavers (1-0). Canfield is in competition with Lyle Moevao to become Oregon State's starter.

Utah quarterback Brian Johnson completed eight of 13 passes for 119 yards and a touchdown, but left at the half with an apparent separated shoulder.

Brohm led Louisville (1-0) to touchdowns on each of the Cardinals' first eight drives, guiding an attack that looked awfully similar to the wide-open system that former coach Bobby Petrino used to lead the Cardinals to national prominence.
